40 years - 40 years ago today I attended my first Martial Arts class. In that time I have worked, sweat has fallen from every part of my body, I have lost blood, time and been hit upside the head more times than i can count. I have been arrogant, prideful and I have been humbled and had my heart opened to be teachable. I have been supported and strengthened by my instructor Tyrone Aranda and the many other brothers and sisters of the Arts that have put up with me and taught me and learned from me and listened to me.

Over the past 40 years I have learned many things and I would like to share what today stands out to be the most impactful lesson that I have learned.

I have learned who I am and what it means to be who I am.

I am a child of God, we all are. As a child of the Divine I have potential and I MUST BE HONEST WITH MYSELF ABOVE ALL ELSE if I am to raise to that potential. I cannot cut myself short, I cannot stand when I should kneel or kneel when I MUST STAND. and because I have been given much I to must give, for I should not try to stand alone.
