Well, look who showed up on the trail camera this morning! 🐾 This Wyoming mountain lion is passing through the same watering area where we’ve been watching a herd of 50+ elk—a pretty incredible reminder that out here, you never know what’s going to step in front of the camera next. The wild is alive in the Black Hills! 🦌🏔️

Sometimes trail cameras capture the perfect bull… and sometimes they capture EVERYTHING except the bull! 😂🦌

We spend plenty of time setting cameras, scouting country, and keeping tabs on elk throughout the Black Hills. But apparently this guy decided selfies were his job—and personal space was optional.

Eye? ✔️
Ear? ✔️
Hide? ✔️
Antler velvet? ✔️
Full bull standing perfectly in front of the camera? Absolutely not. 😂

That’s scouting. You never know what’s going to show up—or how close it’s going to get!

In this Wyoming drought, every drop matters—does are raising fawns under tough conditions, making reliable water sources more important than ever.

Sunday Reflections

There is something extra special about seeing the world through the eyes of your grandchildren. Last weekend was spent making memories with our grandsons as we took a drive to Benezette to see the elk and enjoyed dinner together at the Benezette Hotel. It wasn't anything extravagant—just time together, and I've learned that's often the very best kind of day.

Time has a way of reminding us that childhood doesn't last nearly long enough. I find myself wanting to hold onto these moments just a little tighter because before we know it, they'll no longer be little boys holding our hands—they'll be young men making memories of their own.

While I love these days just as they are, I can't help but look forward to the adventures still to come. I'm anxiously awaiting the day they're old enough to go hunting with Papa, to come out West with their dad, and hear an elk bugle echo through the mountains of Wyoming. I can already picture them learning to call elk, sitting around a campfire, and sharing stories that will hopefully become traditions passed down for generations.

Grandsons are just a little extra special. They have a way of stealing your heart when you least expect it.

On the drive home, Rhett shared something that stopped me in my tracks. He said that when we someday go to heaven, he was going to come work at our ranch and take care of our horses. The innocence and sweetness of a child's heart is a beautiful thing. It was one of those moments I know I'll carry with me forever.

Today, my Sunday reflection is simple—slow down and enjoy the little things. The dinners, the conversations, the adventures, and the tiny voices that someday won't sound quite so tiny anymore.

These are the moments that become our greatest treasures.

The elk will always be there, but they won't always be this little. So for now, we'll simply enjoy the journey—and dream about the adventures still to come. ❤️
