STA’s School Supply Donation Drive Success!

Thanks to everyone who contributed during STA’s annual school supply donation drive…it was a huge success!

STA provided a trunk load of school supplies AND cash donations of $320 to Cherryvale Elementary School where two STA members teach (Mandy Lane and Von Wright).

Thanks to all the STA members who donated, and other PTC patrons who donated as well, to include the Sumter pickleball community…we appreciate everyone’s generosity!

Special thanks to PTC for allowing STA to hold our annual back-to-school mixer and school supply donation drive at PTC, and for Tasha’s creative crayon-themed drop off box in the pro shop!

It’s never too late to donate to schools/teachers/kids in need, so if you would like to make a cash donation to Cherryvale elementary, please email me at [email protected] for coordination.

Finally, thanks to all the teachers in our area who do so much for our children…you are amazing!!!

We had our “Racquets & Rosé" Mixer for a fun Saturday change of pace. We played World TeamTennis (WTT) rules that feature co-ed play, cumulative game scoring, and no-ad sets consisting of men's and women's singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Players were divided into Team Cat, Team Dog, Team Ferret, and Team Hamster. Team Dog won! Thanks to Tasha Overmyer for leading this event, the volunteers for setting everything up, and for everyone who brought food for the great brunch!

“1-2-3…Eyes on me!”

STA held its annual “Back-to-school” charity mixer on Friday and over 40 “students” enjoyed some fun tennis followed by sack lunches in the PTC “cafeteria” during the social!

It may have been a few years (decades?) since the last “lunch period” for many of the players, but they still remembered how to negotiate a trade for their favorite lunch items...overheard during the social: “I’ll trade you my Cheetos for your Lays potato chips…”

Congrats to Saritha Bijjala for correctly naming the most STA members/PTC staff members from their school yearbook photos in our "Name that player" contest! (See the photos below)

Players donated a CARLOAD of school supplies, plus over $250 cash, for local kids and teachers to use as they start the school year! Thanks to everyone who donated!

STILL WANT TO HELP LOCAL SCHOOL KIDS AND TEACHERS? The school supply donation drive runs through Friday, August 21st, so you can still help by…
1) Bringing some school supplies to the PTC donation box in the Pro Shop before Friday
2) Contacting Scott Zobrist ([email protected]) for Venmo/Zelle/cash donations

Join us at Palmetto Tennis Center for another fun tennis mixer on Friday, August 14th, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. This mixer is for a great cause...donating school supplies to local kids as they start the school year.

Cost: Free! But players are encouraged to bring school supplies that will be donated to local school children who need them. See below for a list of recommended school supplies.

Can’t attend the mixer but still want to donate? Drop off school supply donations at the PTC pro shop anytime from now until one week after the mixer. Thanks!

Open to all adult tennis players in Sumter and surrounding areas.

Attire: Wear something from a school you attended in the past to stick with the "Back to School" theme (high school, college, kindergarten, driving school...)

ROUND 4 of “Team Shaw Tennis Clinic”!

STA hosted our fourth “Team Shaw Tennis Clinic” on Friday, a FREE intro-to-tennis clinic for military members/spouses!

We had 11 military members/spouses from Shaw AFB who started learning to play tennis!
Each of the 11 participants received:
- Free racquet
- 2 hours of free instruction from pros Brian and Nick
- Free taco bar dinner catered by “Scratch Catering”
- Free 6-week “Quick Start” beginners clinic ($96 value!)
- Free STA membership after completion of Quick Start! ($20 monetary value, HUGE social value!)

Thanks to:
- PTC for allowing STA to use the courts
- Pros Brian and Nick for the great instruction
- “Coach Kay” for helping instruct/facilitate
