UPDATE ON RIVERSIDE DGC!!!

The club signed an agreement (Memorandum of Understanding or MOU) with Pierce County Parks this Monday that extends through December 2025 that will keep Riverside DGC in operation through that time and hopefully beyond. It appears that the club will maintain this relationship through Parks for the majority of the contract period. Ultimately, it is still the plan to have Public Works take over management of the land, but Parks has indicated that currently, Public Works has a willingness to also work with the club.

With the new MOU, County Parks has agreed to the following:
Parks will open the main gate at Riverside DGC daily.
Parks will conduct semi-routine maintenance at Riverside DGC.
Parks will respond when notified by the club of: homeless encampments, illicit activity by park goers and any individuals out of compliance with park code.

Pierce County Disc Golf Association (PCDGA) has agreed to the following:
PCDGA will lock the main gate at Riverside DGC daily in accordance to park hours.
PCDGA will notify the North Region Park Specialist if anyone refuses to leave at park closure.
PCDGA will notify the park specialist of illicit activity.
PCDGA is permitted to maintain all specific disc golf equipment.
PCDGA will coordinate all other major maintenance activities (e,g, work parties) with the Park Specialist.
PCDGA may host scheduled recreation events with prior approval by the Park Specialist.
PCDGA, and its members agree to comply with Pierce County Park Code.

The club is excited to enter into this new chapter with the County. Riverside DGC will remain in its current form (with no expansion), while we continue to work on course improvements.

We have a few gate volunteers already, but will be looking for more in the near future. Please respond to this post, if interested.

We would also like to welcome our new Park Specialist, Julia Banzai. Julia recently replaced our former park specialist, Dennis Bilderback.

After a series of recent discussions, Pierce County Parks has offered the Club a draft Site Stewardship Agreement that will allow the continuation of Riverside DGS through October 2023. The agreement will come with increased responsibilities such as locking the gate at close, but Parks may be able to help us with mowing once or twice a year. Following October 2023, we are told that Pierce County Public Works will need to be agreeable to this arrangement in order for it to continue. We are hoping to grow our relationship with the County during the interim and there are also opportunities for new course development elsewhere as well. Stay Tuned!

The club is receiving reports of players at Riverside DGC hassling County Parks staff as they are closing the park for the evening. Not Cool. Please respect park staff and do as they ask. The club does not want to jeopardize its relationship with the County. Thank you.

Pierce County Parks informed Mike Noot that they locked the gates to RIverside tonight. They are expected to remained locked for the next two weeks. Stay tuned.

Just a reminder: riverside discgolf course will be CLOSED this coming sunday, January 5th for the Washington team disc golf event! Sorry for the inconvenience
