Factory production doesn't always allow the attention to detail that a master rod builder invests in each rod. There are several phases in the build process that make a difference in the fishability that most factories simply do not take the time to perform. It all starts with the rod blank. Spining the blank and orienting that spine properly is the foundation of a rod that simply performs better

compared to a rod that is not spined correctly, it will cast more accurately with greater distance, handle fish without twisting in your hands, and be more durable. Another example is static loading a rod for precise guide placement. That is the process where the line guides are temporarily placed on the blank, the rod is then strung with line and a weight is tied on to load the rod as if the angler were fighting a fish. This allows the guides to be placed precisely based on the characteristics of that particular rod blank's action in order to use the full power and action of the blank. One more example is internal balancing. To my knowledge, there are no manufacturers offering this feature in mass produced rods. The benefits of internal balancing include less angler fatigue, improved sensitivity, and longer casts with less effort. This feature is advantageous in tip-up angling presentations and therefore most noticeable with rod positions between 9 and 11 o'clock. Pricing varies widely depending on blank and component choices.

A lucky man to be sure. Unfortunate, but it could have been unspeakably worse.

Here are the last few going out for the summer, production is on hold until October(I need to get my boat wet on the bottom). The 905 is a nice blank, the right amount of backbone but not as stout as the 906. It's about perfect for 5/8 or 3/4 jigs. These 822's are drop shot rods. A lot of beef at the bottom, huge taper to a sensitive tip. Winn grips, comfort reel seats, Elite guides, internal balancing, it doesn't get any better!

Here's a good example of why custom rods are a better choice than off-the-shelf factory built rods. The customer had a specific action and length in mind for a particular technique. This is a drop shot rod made from a 6'10" blank cut to 6'9". What make this better than a mass produced rod? The blank is splined correctly, something that occurs only by chance with all of the factory rods I've tested, not by intention. This is internally balanced to zero fore and aft at your hand while fishing. Not supporting the weight of blank while you're trying to detect a bite is essential to sensitivity. The guides are place under static load, no factory does this in standard production. It provides the best possible action from any blank. The cork is polymer sealed, providing much longer life and improving grip and feel. All components, colors and graphics can chosen by the customer, try that when ordering a St. Something or G. Somebody rod. An extra bonus, this rod is at least 10% less than it's nearest big name competitor. Of course, the choice is yours. I hope everyone has a great fishing season! Tight lines to all!

Here's a pair going out to a friend in time for his vacation. The perfect frog rod in a 904 and an excellent dock skipper in a 783. Winn Grips have a good selection in colors besides just the black & green.
