🏴‍☠️ Stede Bonnet was a wealthy Barbados planter with no sailing experience who left his family and plantation in 1717 to become a pirate, earning the nickname 'the Gentleman Pirate.' He briefly partnered with Blackbeard before striking out on his own aboard the Royal James. Captured after a six-hour battle off North Carolina in 1718, Bonnet was hanged in Charleston that December.
