WHY some swim instructors teach children to swim without goggles or nosepiece, there are a few common reasons:

1. Water confidence:
Children learn that getting water on their face and in their eyes is normal and not something to fear. This can help them stay calmer if they unexpectedly fall into water without their equipment.

2. Safety skills:
In a REAL emergency, a child is unlikely to have goggles or a nosepiece available. Learning to open their eyes, orient themselves, and control their breathing without equipment can improve water safety.

3. Breath control:
Swimming without a nosepiece encourages children to learn how to exhale through their nose and manage water around their face naturally.
