All a newborn has known their whole life is water, so it makes sense that they’d love bath time! 👶

You as a parent can help your newborn prepare for swimming lessons during bath time each night! 🛁
Here’s a small list of things you can do:

• give them a cue, then pour a small amount of water over their head 💦
• lay them on their back and let them experience the feeling of water in their ears and around their cheeks 🐳 (make sure to gently dry their ears afterwards to prevent infection)
• lay them on your chest and move their legs as if they’re kicking 🦦

With babies this small, we use natural reflexes to teach them to hold their breath on cue. Newborns have a breath holding reflex that goes away around 5-7 months of age, so teaching this skill early is so important! 🩵

Our pool is indoors and heated, which allows us to hold lessons year round! 🤩

🎉CAMP RECAP🎉 day four

Today was all about SAFETY! 🤩

The campers learned two different “rescues”, and they learned how to apply them. 🐳

The first one they learned is called “reach-and-grab”. This rescue is used only when a drowning victim is close enough to reach. The rescuer lays on their tummy with their shoulders parallel to the wall, then they reach their hand out to grab the victim! 🦀

The second rescue is called “throw-don’t-go”. This rescue is used when the victim is NOT close enough to grab. The rescuer throws a life ring out to the victim just like a frisbee 🥏 then pulls the rope in to the wall!

We played a game to allow the kiddos to practice recognizing which rescue to use in different situations. 🐊

For craft time today, we made frisbees out of paper plates! 🥏
