Put another one on the board for Yata! Shot was a little back, ended up being liver. Yata tracked him around 300yds or so and we jumped him. Came back this morning and she finished the job.
Shout out the the hunter who realized the shot was back and decided to back out and not disturb the track! That decision a lot of times determines whether a dog will find it or not!

I still have some pups in training. Keep me in mind if you shoot a deer and see it go down. If you have time to wait for me to get there I’d appreciate every easy track I can put my pups on. I’ll gut for ya and help drag!

THE TIME HAS COME!!! Youth season is here. This is generally a busy weekend for deer tracking teams! There are a lot of youngsters out in the woods with very little experience pulling the trigger. Unfortunately but understandably that results in some wounded deer. Please don’t hesitate to give us a call if you need us! We understand that that kids little doe means just as much to them as a big mature buck means to us. I don’t care if it’s a fawn we are tracking or a 180” buck. We are going to do everything we can to help you find it.
It is going to be wet and rainy this weekend, keep in mind that that helps a track dog! If you are worried your youth hunter has put a bad shot on a deer but don’t want to give it time because you are worried the rain will wash away the blood please just hold off and give us a call. We can track it even though you can’t see the blood. The moisture enhances the sent for the hound. If you rush it you will likely jump the deer from bed to bed and never recover it.

Also remember, when tracking don’t walk directly on the track. If you end up losing blood and calling a dog you don’t want to be dragging that sent all over with you on the bottom of your boots.

Same goes for grid searching. Please call a dog before grid searching. The chances of a dog lining a track out after 3 or 4 guys have walked trough it 15 times goes down dramatically!

Good luck to all the youngsters this weekend! I hope you don’t need us but we are here if you do!

Chevy is starting to get it figured out!

Opening morning creeps closer and closer every second! Hopefully everyone is buttoning up your preseason work, getting bows dialed in, and coming up with early season cold front excuses to get out of stuff!
We are personally chomping at the bit! Fall/winter is going to be exciting to say the least for our crew. Between hunting, tracking, and processing we will be neck deep in every aspect of the game!

As far as tracking goes one of the first questions I always get is, “ how much do you charge to track”?
Seems like every tracking team is different on the rate but for us it’s all for tips. Any tip you can afford to give is much appreciated! It takes a lot of work, time, and dedication to get these dogs ready for season not to mention vet bills, feed, wormer, flee and tick meds, fuel for the truck, tracking systems, lights and so on.
The last thing we want is someone to leave an animal in the woods that could potentially be recovered all because they couldn’t afford the rate! I didn’t get into this game to get rich I did it because I have an unbelievable respect for these animals and have been in situations where I couldn’t fine one after hitting. The thought of it keeps me up at night!
All that being said I would be lying if I said it doesn’t hurt a little after leaving your woods after sometimes hours of effort to find or even not find your animal without so much as a couple bucks for fuel. Again, not required but just put yourself in our shoes. If it’s clear your tracking is really putting in max effort for you after driving however far please treat them right!

Good luck to everyone! I hope you don’t need us but we are only a call away if you do!

Deer season is coming up! And I’m gonna start preaching this on here quite often!

#1 after you shoot a deer and start tracking try your best to stay off the trail!
#2 If you run out of blood back out and call a dog team before you push any further! The more you stomp the woods out the less likely a dog will be able to find the deer!

It is so hard to back out after running out of blood! I still struggle with it personally! We always just wanna go a little further! But what happens is when u go zigging and zagging through the woods where you think your deer went, everywhere you step on that deers trail the sent gets on your boots and you spread it everywhere you walk! So when the dog shows up instead of having a simple single track to follow it has tracks everywhere that smells like a hit deer! When I pull up to a track and my dog starts going all over the place and the body language is telling me she is on the track. I immediately know the hunter spent some time walking the woods looking for the deer or called buddies to come help. The odds of finding that deer just went down dramatically!
Imagine a fresh blanket of snow on a field with a single line of tracks going across. That’s what it’s like for our deer recovery dogs to follow an undisturbed wounded deer trail through the timber. Now let your kids go play in that snowy field. What it looks like now is how the dogs smells the track after you’ve grid searched! Nearly impossible for them to line it out!

Hopefully this little Catahoula pup aka chigger, will be in the starting line up for soggy bottom deer trackers in a couple years!
Couple things that have always been apart of my life and have always made me grin from ear to ear even when know body’s around is deer hunting and hounds! This is a way iv combined the two and the dopamine rush I get when seeing these pups catch on is drug like!
Step one for me, getting them excited to chase a particular item. A really stinky one! For me it don’t get any better than liver. Next I’ll lay a track with it before getting him out so he’s forced to use his nose to find it! Stay tuned for progress videos! Before long he will be at Chevy’s level running hour old tracks laid with just hoof sent.
It’s so cool having Yada as a finished dog I can rely on for this year but also having multiple pups in training for the years to come. I’m beyond excited for this season and what the future holds! I sure hope you don’t need us but we are here if you do!!
