After a lot of thought and a lot of emotions, it's time for us to share some difficult news.
In August 2015, Thomas and I took over Suitland Bowl with a simple goal: to keep duckpin bowling alive and preserve a place that meant so much to so many people. What started as a business quickly became so much more. Over the last 11 years, we've poured countless hours, endless energy, and a whole lot of love into this building. More importantly, we've built friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Over the past few months, there have been rumors and uncertainty surrounding the future of the building. To be honest, uncertainty isn't exactly new for us. Throughout our time here, we've faced our share of challenges and unknowns when it came to the building and its future. Those who know, know. Despite that, we've always done our best to focus on what mattered most: keeping the doors open, creating a place for people to gather, and preserving the sport we love.
While we knew there was a possibility that changes were coming, we were never given a clear picture of what the future would hold. As many of you noticed, we asked league bowlers to take home their equipment at the end of the season because we wanted everyone to be prepared if the worst-case scenario became reality.
Unfortunately, that reality has arrived.
We have been informed that the building has been sold and that as of July 31, the businesses currently operating here will no longer be able to remain. Because of this, Suitland Bowl will be closing its doors.
We are currently planning one final weekend in June to open the doors, welcome everyone back, roll a few more games, share some stories, and say goodbye to a place that has meant so much to all of us. We're looking at either the second or third weekend of June and will share details as soon as they are finalized.
This isn't the ending we hoped for, and our hearts are heavy. We are sad not only for ourselves, but for the loss of a piece of local history. Suitland Bowl has been a part of this community since 1953, and it's heartbreaking anytime a place with that much history, character, and significance disappears. Long before we arrived, generations of families, friends, and bowlers created memories within these walls. We feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of that story for the last 11 years and to have helped carry that legacy forward.
But when we look back, we won't remember the challenges. We'll remember the birthday parties, league nights, family outings, first dates, celebrations, league championships, and the generations of bowlers who walked through our doors. We'll remember the laughter, the friendships, and the community that made Suitland Bowl special.
Thank you for supporting us, encouraging us, and helping keep this little corner of duckpin bowling alive for the past 11 years. While the building may be closing, the memories, friendships, and impact of Suitland Bowl will remain forever.
We hope you'll join us one last time in June to celebrate everything Suitland Bowl has meant to so many people.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives and your memories. We are proud of what we built together, and while this chapter is ending, we know the spirit of Suitland Bowl will live on through the people who loved it.
