Just because the long baseball season is coming to an end doesn’t mean the work is over. As a matter of fact the off-season workouts are as important as your in season workouts. In the off season we break down your strengths and weaknesses and really focus on that particular part of your game that you just don’t feel comfortable about. We can really get into the core changes that are needed to be made because there are no games going on. You never want to do big changes during the season because your son or daughter will not be comfortable in game situations because they are worried about swing thoughts or not finishing your pitches on the mound. I make sure to relay to my kids parents and the kids to also play other sports in the off season. Basketball is a great sport to play for cardio, agility and toughness. It doesn’t mean that they don’t practice baseball. We just make sure that we set up 1 or maybe 2 Days a week of offseason training. A lot of people say that the kids arm needs to rest but my response to this is if he is only throwing once a week compared to playing 6 Days a week all year then you are getting them a lot of rest and at the same time keeping their skills sharp and working on new pitches. Hitting is the same. You can’t expect to not hit for 2 months and then go right back to the form you had in the fall. It doesn’t work that way. They will only fall further behind and we are back where we left off in the fall with bad mechanics. Use the off season to work on specific areas of your game and also for just regular maintenance. You want to gain strength in the off season not lose it. As a former professional baseball player for 13 years with 6 of those years at the Major League Level I can attest to you the importance of not allowing yourself to become weaker in the off season. If your kid has a goal of making a certain travel team roster or making their school team in the spring then they have to continue to work on their game in the off season. I’m not sure the first time I heard this but I have never forgotten it. “ Chance favors the prepared mind.” What I’m getting at is don’t pack it in just because it’s November. Make sure that you are still trying to get better as a player.
I would love the chance to help your sons or daughters achieve their goals and become better players starting with the off season training. I’m available for lessons 7 Days a week, so if you would like to see your child make big strides in their games then start making your offseason schedule now. Time slots are tight so make sure to text me at 757-646-1570 to set up private one on one lessons or I do offer small group lessons. I do pitching, hitting and occasional fielding lessons.
