People pleasing is often framed like kindness.
But a lot of the time, it’s not.
A lot of people pleasing is actually you deciding who someone else is before they’ve had the chance to show you.
You stay quiet.
You avoid the conversation.
You swallow what’s true for you.
Not because it’s always the right thing to do but because it protects temporary peace.
And that might feel generous in the moment, but sometimes it’s actually selfish.
Because now:
• they don’t get the chance to know the truth
• you don’t get real clarity
• and the entire relationship is being shaped by your fear, not reality
If they react badly, then at least now you know.
Now you have actual information.
Now you’re responding to what is…not what you assumed might happen.
Speaking your truth is not always comfortable.
But silence doesn’t always make you kind.
Sometimes it just keeps you in control of a story that was never tested.
