Deerkill Day Camp

At this summer's Talent Show, we were fortunate enough to bear witness to the debut of Midge and the Refreshments, a new "band" of campers and staff featuring instruments made at Woodworking this summer (cajons, ukeleles, vibraphones...). They have one, and only one, song, appropriately enough our anthem, "Down at Deerkill." Congratulations to everyone in the band, our Woodworking staff and of course, everyone who was there for this once in a lifetime event (they already broke up). All the Talent Show videos are now posted in your Camp In Touch accounts in 2026.

On the last day of camp, our oldest campers, the graduating STARs, took a minute to look back 12 years and relive their days as Flippers and Dolphins when they first asked the timeless question, "What time is it, Mr. Shark" and learned how to blow bubbles. Bittersweet, for sure.

We're so proud of our 2026 Deerkill STARs (our version of CITs) for coordinating our fundraising efforts which resulted in a donation of $2,700 today to Experience Camps. Thank you to all who purchased, contributed time and donated to the cause as part of our Deerkill Cares initiative: https://www.deerkilldaycamp.com/giving-back

One of our longtime campers and staff founded an organization to reduce textile waste and give back to the community. Take a look at and donate any clothing you've decided needs a new home (let's face it, there's always a few shirts in the back you're never going to wear...). For more on how the Deerkill community gives back, check out https://www.deerkilldaycamp.com/giving-back.

And so another summer has come and gone at our little patch of paradise. 's 69th summer was one for the books. Our community of campers and staff gathered together one last time in our pavilion to reflect, laugh and cry at our year end slideshow. Personally, we celebrated our 20th year as Directors and give thanks every day to have the good fortune to play even a small role in the life-changing phenomenon known as camp. As the Bryan Adam's song says, "those were the best days of my life."
