So today the Bros learned an important lesson in the nature of social media, the speed at which information spreads, and the importance of research with regard to placing blame and making false accusations...
Recently there was an unfortunate incident occurring up in Michigan where a nice lady’s home was damaged by some people who booked it through Airbnb. As it turns out, we have been accused of being involved through multiple misinformed Facebook posts, and we would just like to take the time to sort this out in an effort to clear the good Bro name.
To make a long story short, the people responsible for the damage posted some pictures at her house which have now been shared all over social media (by the nice lady) in an effort to hold them accountable. It just so happens that one of our Bros, Erik, went to school with a few of the people a number of years ago but hasn’t seen them since. While scrolling through Instagram one day, Erik saw a picture of the people he used to go to school with and gave it a “like” without having any context of the situation. (Mind you, this is something we ALL do on a daily basis.)
Someone who was eager to hold the guilty party responsible saw Erik’s name under the "likes" and automatically assumed he was involved without any context of their own. They must have looked at Erik’s account, found our website link, and then made the misinformed connection which led them to accuse us via our website link on the nice lady's initial post.
Given the nature of social media and the quick spread of information, someone from our area (who was also eager to hold those people responsible) saw our website link and shared the nice lady’s post in a number of Door County Facebook groups claiming, “Some of these guys have ties to the area.”
We would just like to state outright that this has all been a terrible case of misinformation, and that Those Do. Bros are in no way responsible for or involved with that incident. Our hearts go out to the nice lady who owned the house and we understand how those who shared it were just trying to help, but at the end of the day, the only people at fault here are the ones who destroyed the house.
In the future, we hope you’ll take note of this lesson as it’s something any of us could fall victim to. Social media is a powerful tool, but as we all know, with great power comes great responsibility.
Thank you all, and we hope you have a fantastic day!
