This morning I met John and Jean who got up really early and drove from Wichita Falls to fish with me this morning. They arrived early so we departed early.

We made our first stop in 24 foot. We pulled two keepers from this area, but had to move a lot due to tiny catfish destroying our primo baits before the hybrids could get to them. 

Just before 7 AM, we went on the hunt for schooling Sandbass. It was very weak this morning, but they got 12 fish before we gave up on them. They casted MAL lures for those fish.

Then we went to where I fished yesterday and deeper waters and caught the rest of their hybrid limits plus a few were caught in released. Jean was doing pretty well with the MAL lure catching sand bass while we live bait fish for the hybrids.

Quality fish again today, but it was not on fire, and it was somewhat of a slow bite, compared to the last few days, but we still filled the cooler!

6/7/26 Richland Chambers

This morning Jesus brought Gustavo, Ivan, Junior and Emmy out to fish with me. They met me at my dock and we departed about 6am. Jesus told me the plan was to only keep 10 hybrids and 50 sand bass…….sometimes plans change 😂

Our first stop was for hybrid stripers - we used live shad and fished 24-31’ in this area. We put 7 fish in the cooler here and released at least 5 more keepers that just weren’t ’cooler quality’. Emmy was getting a work out reeling in hybrids with adult help. A few big blues met the cooler here as well. Then boats started to showed up around us and the fish quit. About that time a got a tip about schooling sand bass and off we went.

I put spinning rods in everyone’s hands with MAL lures attached …. (Except Emmy he’s only 4yrs old). I told them sling them out and reel in a fish. As I watched I notice Junior having some issues - quick lesson and he was casting out for the first time ever and reeling in fish. Emmy helped out reel in fish as well. They put 31 sand bass in the cooler before they quit in this area.

I wanted to play with the hybrids some more so we switched back to live bait and Emmy took a nap - which was pretty smart as we spent 45 minutes looking and not finding anything good - we made a big move and set up in deeper waters - rods started bending - I started working! I would hear that one is really big, let’s keep it too, over and over while we released smaller keeper size lip hooked fish.
Finally I said you need 3 more for a 5 man limit and we have 15 minutes left - next 3 hit the cooler and we are done. 9:55am 25 in the cooler and at least 15 keepers released during the trip.

Emmy was tired and refused to be in the picture but told me thank you and he had fun😎

This morning I met Joey, Gary, Larry and Paul at the Meier Dock - this was another Ellis County Wild Game Dinner auctioned trip. Wild Side Guide Service and I teamed up to make their purchase memorable. Their trip included an over night stay in the Meier lake house and an afternoon trip from Wild Side and a morning trip from me.

Plan was for me to pick them up at 5:45. Storms moved out start time to 7. We hit the gas and started slinging MAL lures at schooling sand bass! We got about 45 minutes before we ran to the dock to wait out the next storm. 59 fish in the cooler!

Schooling fish were done when we went back out about an hour later. We started hybrid fishing with live bait. Took a minute to get them going but we started putting some good fish in the cooler at a steady pace and the Larry and Paul needed to leave 😐. We left fish biting to drop them off - we went back out and put a few more keepers in the cooler but never really got them going.

Gary caught some catfish off the dock while I cleaned fish - dropped them back at the Meier dock with plans to fish again soon!

I still have dates available in June and July is pretty much wide open.

‼️‼️Limits of sand bass and some good hybrids‼️‼️

This morning I met Gustavo and crew at The Harbor Restaurant. They showed up early - which I welcome! If you show up early and I am ready I would rather start fishing then sit there doing nothing. We still stop fishing at the scheduled time, just get some bonus time fishing.

We started out hybrid fishing - we fished 22-28’ with live shad. It was slow! They managed to put 6 in the cooler. I decided to make a move and landed on schooling sand bass. They started casting MAL lures and I started unhooking fish😎. When they quit they had 89 sand bass in the cooler.

We still had an hour so we went back to hybrid fishing. They managed to catch the missing 11 white bass on artificial while we soaked live shad trying to get the hybrids to fire off - they didn’t want to play nice today.

Moon phase is almost over - hybrid fishing is about to fire off again with the summer pattern in a day or two.

After 2 days off - back at it again

This morning we had a 2 boat trip - it was supposed to be a group of 8 but dwindled to 5 the day of. This 2 boat trip was purchased at an auction at the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner benefiting youth outdoor activities (4H etc)

We left the Meier dock a little later than expected, I had Mark and Terrell in my boat and as we were running across the lake we see an approaching storm - we stopped and fished for a few minutes before seeking shelter from the storm.
Never rained on us and we went back out.

It wasn’t an incredible day but it wasn’t bad. Mark started out having 4 hooked fish get off before getting them to the net. I decided that pole was unlucky so I put cut shad on it and put it on Terrell’s side. He had already put one keeper in the cooler.

About that time that unlucky pole is bent in half and Terrell boats a 25ish lb blue cat. We talked about releasing it, but he chose to put it in the cooler. After that Marks luck changed and he started putting fish in the box!

It wasn’t long and we had limits in the cooler and played catch and release for a while before calling it a morning!

I have lots of availability in June!

This morning I picked up 3 guys at The Harbor Restaurant for a morning of hybrid striper fishing. They asked not to be in a social media picture - not because they should be at work, but because they didn’t invite a friend and didn’t want to deal with that😂😂😂

We fished 3 area for hybrid stripers. All hybrids were caught on live shad. Depths started at 24’ and we ended up fishing 47’ on our final stop. The fish that wouldn’t bite yesterday were eager to eat today.

We had hybrid limits with time to spare so we targeted white bass (sandies). We found numerous big schools - and we had lots of fish chasing our lures, but very few wanted to engage. They probably caught 10-15 on artificial before the biting gnats got after us and we headed to the dock a few minutes early.

This morning I met Charles, Daniel and Daniel (easy day of remembering names😂)
We left out of The Harbor Restaurant just after daybreak.

We made our first stop in 24’ - dropped live shad and before long we had our first fish in the cooler ….. then we searched a while and moved to another area of the lake.

We made a stop in 30’ and dropped baits, rods started bending and about 30 minutes later they moved on - 10 in the cooler at this point. Started searching again.
Our next 2 areas were deep water - 44-48’. Lots of fish here ….. but not very hungry. The ones that were - they were better than average fish for sure. We still needed 3 to hit limits - there was some artificial vertical fishing going on as well - I did a lot of this fishing my self - but Charles participated as well. We were running short on time and needed 1 more fish - my artificial rod hooked up and I passed it to Charles - hit limits with zero time to spare.

Sounds like today was just not a great hybrid day from talking to other guides who had no problem finding them - but getting them to eat was another story.

Appears the shad spawn has pretty much wrapped up for the year - there will still be a few pockets left, but the shallow bite is disappearing rapidly.

All but 1 hybrid striper were caught on live shad
Half the white bass and 1 keeper hybrid were caught on Zman Streakz. The other white bass were caught on live shad.

This morning I picked up Jeremi and this crew at The Harbor Restaurant just before day break.

We started off casting at the bank - lots of catfish caught on Zman Streakz, but not a single hybrid striper. Live bait caught 3 fish here. I really wanted to move on earlier than we did, but they were having fun casting - so we stayed a bit.

We fished all over today, 1 hybrid here, one there. Best stop was 39’ and live bait caught 7 fish here. We finished up with a keeper hybrid and a bunch of whites on Zman Streakz before the green pants showed up for a safety inspection (all good) and we called it a day.
Ended up 5 short on hybrids today 😞- had a crazy high amount of broken lines today - usually right at the snell knot on the hook.

These guys put together a big cooler of fish!

This morning I met returning customers Edgar (dad) Edgar (son) Sahan (nephew) and Rusty (just a friend I believe) at my dock before the sun came up and we set out for a morning of fishing. The drove up from the Austin area to fish with me today

We got set up and I offered out 2 artificial rods and the other 2 would work live bait rods - curve ball they sent 9yr old Sahan up on the bow to cast - he did well, but I was a little nervous and hid behind the console for safety - HE CAUGHT FISH! Live bait was off a bit today and we had a learning curve about how to hook set larger baits. We missed a bunch of fish😞
We left this area with 5 hybrids in the cooler and a few blues.

The rest of the morning I struggled to get on really active fish, caught 1 here and one there - we just couldn’t get them going.
Right at 10am they fired off and by 10:10am limits were met and we headed in!

Sahan was the reason for the trip I believe and he reeled in over half of the fish today! We was having a good time and napped perfectly during the slow fishing times 😂
