This past weekend, Tennis4All players attended a weekend tennis camp at Cliff Drysdale Tennis School at Stratton Mountain. It was a beautiful weekend playing on outdoor clay courts with a mountain view ⛰️🎾

Tennis4All had an EVENTFUL August! First, we were invited to participate in the US Open Pride Day on August 29th (thank you and 🏳️‍🌈🎾)! Twenty four Tennis4All players had a fantastic afternoon at the Open before having the once-in-a-lifetime experience of hitting on Arthur Ashe Stadium. We even ran into Lindsay Davenport in the hallways of the stadium, and she was so kind and generous to spend several minutes chatting with us.

That’s not all though. In August we also had our annual trip to the grass tennis courts at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, RI. It’s also a favorite event of our membership, sporting our finest tennis whites and enjoying a pleasant afternoon of tennis.

Last but not least, Tennis4All hosted this year’s edition of the Atlantic Cup. The Atlantic Cup is an annual competition between Tennis4All and the LGBTQ+ tennis groups in NYC, Philadelphia, and DC. Players from all four cities spent the weekend competing on Harvard University’s tennis courts, and we’re thrilled to announce the Tennis4All took home the trophy this year 🏆

Tennis4All Boston players (with adopted members from DC and Cincy) enjoy a spirited Memorial Day weekend at the Carolina Classic in Raleigh, NC. Congrats to Ben Woolston for winning the open singles consolation draw, Roman Krasikov and Gino Galutera for reaching the semifinals in their respective singles draws, and John Costello and Jeff Legendre for reaching the quarterfinals in their respective singles draws. We hope to see you next year, NC!

Dear Tennis4All Friends,

Long-time Tennis4All member Daniel Onea passed away on Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2024, following a long and hard-fought battle with prostate cancer. He was 53. Over the years, Daniel received outstanding care at the MGH Cancer Center and for the last several months of his life, he was cared for in his home by the Hospice Team at Care Dimensions and his closest friends. Our very own Conall O’Cleirigh managed Daniel’s health care and devoted countless hours making sure this time was as pleasant as possible for Daniel - it was truly an extraordinary exhibition of friendship and love.

Daniel adored playing tennis, and being a member of Tennis4All was one of the joys in Daniel’s life. While his health lasted, he would never decline a game. Daniel brought every aspect of his fiery and tempestuous personality to his tennis play. He constantly pushed himself and would expend every ounce of his energy on every point. Daniel never quite mastered the fine art of losing and was known to storm off the court in a torrent of Romanian expletives - only to be looking to play again with you the next day.

Despite the fireworks, Daniel forged many friendships in Tennis4All, and they were all precious to him. He was a frequent member of the leagues, GLTA tournaments, the Atlantic Cup and of course the socials. Daniel relished the socials as an opportunity to express the camp, adventurous, and feminine aspects of his personality. No one will ever pull off thigh-high, 6-inch, stiletto boots as well ever again. The acceptance and encouragement that Tennis4All provided to Daniel to express himself in this way was life altering, and he was tremendously grateful.

Aside from tennis, Daniel was trained as a chemical engineer and worked in bioinformatics at Takeda. He was an avid Bridge player, tea enthusiast, and hopelessly addicted to League of Legends. He was deeply committed to protecting the earth’s ecosystems and biodiversity and was an accomplished photographer of nature.

Daniel’s friends will be organizing a memorial to celebrate his life within the upcoming months. In the meantime, all running forehands down the line should be in Daniel’s name
