Greetings Stowe Pickleball Club Members!
Although our pickleball season is over, we couldn’t let it pass without recognizing what a great season it was. Rough surface conditions kept us off the Stowe Parks and Recreation’s tennis courts and we had limited early season play at Town & Country but SPC participation at Mountainside Resort and Stowe H.S. was very strong. Everyone upped their game, made new friends, and demonstrated great sportsmanship!
Looking ahead, we hope to expand the number of pickleball courts and play times at Stowe High School. Additional courts at the high school are still under negotiation, and will require a significant SPC monetary investment, but we’re optimistic about adding one or two more courts there. Depending upon their construction schedule, Town & Country Resort may also have one court available for us to use next year. Stowe Parks and Recreation tennis courts will eventually get resurfaced, but probably not this next calendar year. Anticipating the return of our Canadian members and continued word of mouth growth, we expect more members and the need for more court space. We will continue looking for new court options and welcome input from members who may have ideas about this.
Financially, SPC is in good shape. We are a lean, not-for-profit operation with no employees, salaries, offices, or bonuses. All the work that goes on to make our club tick is accomplished purely by volunteer effort and ambition. The annual dues collected pay for our Playerlineup scheduling webpage, SPC signage, purchasing pickleballs, lining courts, and compensating Mountainside Resort for special use of their private grounds.
Of course, we will be sending out an updated status report in the spring and look forward to seeing you all on the courts next season!
