An amazing and exuberant turnout for the first outdoor game of the new 2022 season. 16 people showed up to brave the cold morning, and it soon turned perfect, sunny, and 65F! Couldn't have asked for a better season opener. For the next several Sunday mornings in May, we'll be meeting at the Stowe High School for some great pickleballing for players of all levels. Once June hits, we'll be playing ALOT at the new Memorial Park courts. Learn more about all of the new pickleball developments in Stowe at www.stowepickleball.com.

Pickleball is an evolving sport to better accommodate new and fun ideas. Here are two new major changes coming in 2021 that all players should be aware of in case there are disputes on the courts.

No more "let" serves - you must be ready to return the serve as if the ball didn't hit the net. The ball must still land safely outside of the kitchen as before.

Provisional Alternate Drop Serve rule - the traditional serve still applies but alternatively, you can drop ( with no downward push ) the ball, bounce it ( more than once if you like) on the ground and then serve. The ball can land inside or outside the court. With this drop serve, you no longer have to hit it below your "belly button" with your wrist below your paddle at contact in the traditional serve. Greetings Stowe Pickleball Club Members!

Although our pickleball season is over, we couldn’t let it pass without recognizing what a great season it was. Rough surface conditions kept us off the Stowe Parks and Recreation’s tennis courts and we had limited early season play at Town & Country but SPC participation at Mountainside Resort and Stowe H.S. was very strong. Everyone upped their game, made new friends, and demonstrated great sportsmanship!

Looking ahead, we hope to expand the number of pickleball courts and play times at Stowe High School. Additional courts at the high school are still under negotiation, and will require a significant SPC monetary investment, but we’re optimistic about adding one or two more courts there. Depending upon their construction schedule, Town & Country Resort may also have one court available for us to use next year. Stowe Parks and Recreation tennis courts will eventually get resurfaced, but probably not this next calendar year. Anticipating the return of our Canadian members and continued word of mouth growth, we expect more members and the need for more court space. We will continue looking for new court options and welcome input from members who may have ideas about this.

Financially, SPC is in good shape. We are a lean, not-for-profit operation with no employees, salaries, offices, or bonuses. All the work that goes on to make our club tick is accomplished purely by volunteer effort and ambition. The annual dues collected pay for our Playerlineup scheduling webpage, SPC signage, purchasing pickleballs, lining courts, and compensating Mountainside Resort for special use of their private grounds.

Of course, we will be sending out an updated status report in the spring and look forward to seeing you all on the courts next season!

Your SPC Operating Committee,
Bill

What a great job Vermont Tennis Courts did creating 2 new courts. Here is close up photo of the fresh paint and registration marks left behind as the paint dries on the BRAND NEW Pickleball courts at Stowe High School on July 10, 2020. Wohooooo!

Thank you Dave Bullis for supporting this endeavor and playing a critical role in seeing it come to its fruition. In July of 2019, Suzan Feibus of Stowe Pickleball Club reached out to Dave Bullis to begin this conversation. Almost exactly one year later, 2 new Pickleball Courts have arrived. Amazing work everyone!!! Thank you, administrators, volunteers, enthusiasts, and players!

SPECIAL EVENT! PIZZA AND A PICKLE NIGHT this Wednesday from 4-6pm. Get your Pickling on from 4-6pm and then eat some pizza.

Open play for all levels followed by take out pizza from EW Bitter's Deep End Pizza adjacent to the courts.

Should be an awesome night, and perfect weather, too.
