A little love for the Lookout Double. One of Stowe’s originals and a true classic Riblet chair, the Lookout has been part of the mountain’s story for generations.

The name actually predates the current lift. When the Big Spruce Double opened in 1954, Stowe built the Lookout warming shelter near its upper terminal—and the name has been part of Stowe’s mountain landscape ever since.

Fun Fact: Riders used to bundle under Johnson Woolen Mills blankets while riding the Big Spruce Double.

In one week, Absolute Mountain Race takes over Stowe Mountain Resort with a challenge designed to test athletes’ strength, endurance, and grit.

Competitors will take on eight workout stations while running a 3K course and climbing 2,000 vertical feet up Gondolier. Come cheer on the racers as they take on Vermont’s highest peak.

Since 1914, the road has been part of the Mount Mansfield experience, bringing generations of visitors to the summit.
