We regret to inform our loyal customers that Hughes Outdoors will be suspending operations indefinitely due to the passing and modifications made to NC Session Law 2021-176.

This law, modified by the NCWRC emergency powers in response to the second CWD positive deer in NC, adds additional requirements to deer urine based products that most if not all current deer urine products cannot meet.

Although it is true that our products could be sold in other states where legally allowed, a considerable amount of resources, time and focus has been spent on establishing our foot hold here in North Carolina. We do not wish to enter the synthetic market at this time. We thank you for your business and for our overwhelming customer response these last couple years. Hopefully legislation will be changed to reflect more common sense approaches or facilities in NC can begin to collect legally harvested urines once again.

2022 has been a year of challenges. For those of you that do not know, our owner Dale Hughes was diagnosed with cancer in January. Although faced with that we had decided to continue full bore with our 2022 hunting season preparations.

Again we were faced with another challenge. In March of 2022, Chronic Wasting Disease was discovered in a deer in Yadkin county, NC. In previous years, legislation was passed to limit the use of natural urines in North Carolina. Narrowly missing a full ban, common sense requirements of CWD testing was added to law which our products met. Unfortunately, after speaking with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission Division Chief we were informed again that they commission would be working again with legislators to “specify what would be legal” “now that the game has changed”.

On March 7th a zoom call was held with the commissioners of the NCWRC to discuss the CWD emergency response plan. In that meeting it was verbally expressed that the intention was for only synthetic lures be allowed moving forward to prevent the spread of CWD.

As we wait for these new rules to make their way through the NC legislative process, it’s a difficult situation for us at Hughes Outdoors to be in when preparing for the future season. What was expected to be a year of larger product offerings and increased product availability has been halted while we wait for this uncertainty to pass.

Please understand that although this legislation effects us, it will not break us. Currently Hughes Outdoors is undergoing changes that will allow for continued product offerings for many future years to come.

Check out this 11-pointer taken by .dale.outdoors in Northern NC! The clouds started getting dark and a front was moving in. Dale decided to hit the stand at 2:45. Dale had on his boots to cover his tracks, this boy came out at 3:20, looking for the does he smelled. At 150 yards this big guy didn't make it far.

On Thanksgiving evening, Bailee made sure she was in the stand waiting on a deer she had named Blade. After getting numerous videos of this buck on camera it was just a matter of time. Thankfully Bailee got her chance and she made the most of it! Using Bailee, took aim and laid this big buck down!
