Stoughton Merchants Fall After Big Comeback By Utica A’s

Stoughton Merchants could not hold onto the lead against Utica A’s on Thursday at Utica Field and fell 13-4 despite leading by four at one point.
Stoughton Merchants jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Connor Blaney hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Alex Johnson drew a walk, scoring one run, and Brady Estervig singled, scoring two runs.
Tyler Soule homered to left field, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first for the Utica A’s.
, which helped Utica A’s tie the game at four in the bottom of the second.
Utica A’s took the lead in the bottom of the third. An error scored one run, to give Utica A’s the lead, 5-4.
Utica A’s scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. AJ Knickmeier drew a walk, scoring one run, Soule singled, scoring two runs, Peyton Soule singled, scoring one run, and one run scored on another play.
Alex Karnes earned the win for Utica A’s. The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking three. Alex Bailey took the loss for Stoughton Merchants. The righty went three innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out two and walking two. Ethan Sehmer stepped on the hill first for Stoughton Merchants. The hurler allowed two hits and five runs (four earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking six. Austin Anderson opened the game for Utica A’s. The hurler gave up two hits and four runs (three earned) over one inning, striking out one and walking four.
Johnson, Blaney, and Estervig each drove in one run for Stoughton Merchants. Chris Lund went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Stoughton Merchants in hits. Stoughton Merchants had a strong eye at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Johnson and Bo Iverson led the team with two walks each. Stoughton Merchants turned one double play in the game.
Soule drove the middle of the lineup, leading Utica A’s with five runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-3 on the day. Soule collected two hits for Utica A’s in three at bats. Knickmeier led Utica A’s with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game.
