Here we go again

We've yet to see an official designation of Typhoon Kong-rey as a "super typhoon", but it definitely qualifies. This storm is now a Cat 4 that's just a hair shy of being a genuine Cat 5, with sustained winds at it's core of 155 mph gusting up to 190 mph. For comparison, those winds are nearly double the maximum winds that were recorded at Kadena AB when Typhoon Trami passed over Okinawa a couple of days ago. Fortunately though, there seems to be little chance of Okinawa sustaining a direct hit from this storm, and it's not expected to maintain this intensity. All the forecast models are in agreement that Kong-rey will pass west of Okinawa, with the JTWC predicting that the center of circulation will remain over 160 miles away. Obviously, due to the size of this beast, it's still going to affect you, starting on Thursday evening and probably all through Friday. But, it shouldn't be nearly as bad as the direct strike you just experienced on Saturday. Kong-rey is also expected to start rapidly losing strength starting on Wednesday, so by the time it makes that closest approach to Okinawa on Friday morning it should be back down to about a Cat 2. You're definitely still going to be getting some serious winds and heavy rain from this storm though. So, do your best to clean up the mess around your home and typhoon prep, because here we go again.
