🎤 STAND UP 101 WORKSHOP

Ages 13 & Up

Find Your Funny. Find Your Voice. Own the Stage!

Get ready to laugh, create, and step outside your comfort zone in this fun and supportive Stand-Up Comedy Workshop, taught by experienced comedian Joseph Buckley, who has been performing stand-up comedy for over 12 years!

This workshop gives students the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of stand-up comedy while discovering their own unique comedic voice. Students will learn how to find humor in everyday life, turn personal experiences and stories into jokes, and develop the confidence and skills needed to perform in front of an audience.

Students will explore:

✍️ Joke Writing – Learn how to turn everyday experiences and stories into comedy.
🎭 Finding Your Comedic Voice – Discover what makes your sense of humor unique.
🎤 Microphone & Stage Technique – Learn the basics of holding the stage and using a microphone effectively.
⏱️ Timing & Delivery – Understand the importance of pacing, pauses, and punchlines.
👥 Crowd Interaction – Learn introductory techniques for connecting with an audience.
💪 Confidence & Stage Presence – Build the confidence to get up, perform, and have fun.
😂 Finding the Funny – Learn how comedians turn ordinary moments into entertaining material.

✨ Intensive Spotlight! ✨

🔥 We are excited to announce Emy Stomski as one of our instructors for the Dance Intensive!

Emy Stomski, a Central MA native, has a strong background in competitive dance, mastering multiple styles throughout the New England area. While she pursued formal dance studies at SUNY Purchase, she graduated from Worcester State College with a business degree.

Currently, Emy is a recognized dance educator across New England, having received numerous awards for her choreography. She also choreographs for local dance productions. Her professional credits are extensive and include: MC Hammer House Party Tour (The Funky Bunch), Demi Lovato release party, Eclypse music, Celtics halftime performances, Sybarite NY, Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, NACHMO, and Concentrate on the Artistry.

Starline’s Dance Intensive is actively occuring and we are having a great time!

✨ Intensive Spotlight! ✨

🔥 We are excited to announce Tabitha Rodger as one of our instructors for the Dance Intensive!

Tabitha brings a wealth of experience to her teaching, currently marking her fifteenth year at The Andover School of Ballet (ASB), where she also serves as the director and main choreographer for the ASB Dance Company, which she founded in 2013.

Her extensive professional training began with the Andover School of Ballet and continued with the Boston Youth Moves pre-professional program at the Jeannette Neill Dance Studio. She earned her BFA in Modern Dance from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. During her collegiate career, she had the opportunity to perform works by notable choreographers including Bob Fosse, Louis Johnson, Merrian Soto, and Brian Sanders. Notably, she was part of the first college ensemble to perform Martha Graham’s “Panorama” within a Martha Graham Company program. Her dedication was recognized with the Dance Faculty Recognition Award for Excellence in Dance.

Tabitha’s professional performing career includes a decade with Ipswich Moving Company (including aerial dance), seven years with Deadfall Dance (Judy Wombwell), three years as a soloist with Urbanity Dance in Boston (where she also showcased her choreography), one year with Sokolow Now, and as a member of the Windhover Dance Company in Rockport, MA, performing works by Doris Humphrey and Ina Hahn. She has also been a guest performer with Dusan Tynek Dance Theater in QUARRY DANCE 1 and 3. Her most recent performances have taken place with the company at High Street Studios in Ipswich, MA.

Committed to continuous learning, Tabitha has attended numerous workshops and festivals such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Windhover Spreads its Wings, and The Limon Summer Workshop. Beyond dance, she is a Certified Yoga Teacher and a Grounded Aerial Bungee teacher.

✨ Intensive Spotlight! ✨

🔥 We are excited to announce Jeffrey Velez as one of our instructors for the Dance Intensive!

Multi-instrumentalist and composer, Jeffrey brings to the school a lifetime of playing experience and over ten years of dedicated study to the craft of music. Jeffrey studied Music Theory, History, and Composition at Brown University, as well as guitar performance. He began graduate studies after at Manhattan School of Music, pursuing Vocal Jazz Performance under the tutelage of Grace Parlato and Theo Bleckmann.

Jeffrey joined the Starline Academy staff in 2024. He plays and teaches regularly on six instruments and performs internationally as both bandleader and sideman, accompanying singers, rappers, and poets in a wide variety of genres. Additionally, Jeffrey works with Starline’s Musical Theatre teams coaching them vocally guiding them to reach their full potential. 

Throughout his teaching career, he has worked with students of all ages, genres, and abilities, striving to help them uncover the joy in making music together and in honing their craft. Music is his life’s work, and he looks forward to further developing our dancers’ musicality.

✨ Intensive Spotlight! ✨

🔥 We are excited to announce Mary Ahern as one of our instructors for the Dance Intensive!

Mary Ahern has been part of the dance industry for over 20 years and has trained in all styles of dance, with a particular focus on jazz, lyrical, and hip hop. Mary was an active member of the nationally ranked Westfield State competitive dance team and spent time performing with the contemporary dance company, Contemporarily Out Of Order.

Mary has been a member of the Boston-based company IMPACT Dance, directed by Meghan McCaffrey, for two seasons. Currently, she serves as the President of the Greater Brockton Dance Teachers Association and actively teaches at a variety of south shore studios. Her passion for dance is equally matched by her enthusiasm for teaching. She loves sharing her knowledge with her students and watching them develop their own love for dance.

Starline’s Dance Intensive is August, 11, 12, & 13! We are excited for a great week!
