Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Curtis “Chip” Kell, class of 1966 Avondale High School. Chip Kell was in the inaugural class of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame. Chip Kell passed in 2024, gone but never forgotten.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Montavius Coleman, class of 2015 Southwest DeKalb High School. Please see his profile below:

Coleman was a two-sport student-athlete at Southwest DeKalb, competing in Football and Track & Field while serving as a team captain in both sports. As a thrower, Coleman earned All-State honors during both years of his varsity track career, won the 2015 DeKalb County Discus Championship, and finished as the 2015 GHSA Class 5A State Runner-Up in the discus with a throw of 162’1”. He was also a member of Southwest DeKalb’s 2015 State Championship Track & Field team.

Coleman continued his athletic career at Morehouse College, competing in the throwing events for the Maroon Tigers. During his collegiate career, he became a two-time SIAC Discus Champion, earned NCAA Division II All-South Region honors, and was part of the 2018 SIAC Championship team.
After completing his collegiate career, Coleman returned home to Southwest DeKalb 2019 as the Strength & Conditioning coach and began pouring into the same athletic program that helped develop him. He served as an assistant coach on Southwest DeKalb’s 2022 and 2023 State Championship Track & Field teams before eventually becoming a head coach and continuing his work as an educator and strength & conditioning coach in the physical education department.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Dante Ferguson, class of 2015 Arabia Mountain High School. Dante graduated from Tennessee State University in 2019 with a BS in Civil Engineering.

I am a licensed Professional Engineer working as a Structural Engineer in Nashville,Tennessee.
I currently work for Cdm Smith, an engineering firm headquartered in Boston Massachusetts.

Prior to becoming a professional engineer, I played Division 1 football at Tennessee State University. While at TSU, I played Defensive End , Inside Linebacker and Outside Linebacker. In addition to my success on the field, I am a proud initiate of the College 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee and a member of the Mighty Rho Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Darrell “Shugg” Brown, class of 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School. Coach Shugg attended Grambling State University. He is currently the Defensive Coordinator and Strength Coach At Columbia High School.

Graduated from Newberry college in 2014. I currently work at Columbia middle school serving as an 8th grade interrelated math teacher and coaching the Columbia middle school football team while pursuing my doctoral degree in special education. Apart of the greatest fraternity in the Land Omega Psi Phi incorporated.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Janathian Turner, class of 2018 Towers High School. Please see Coach Turner’s profile below:

After graduating from high school, I went on to play Division I football at Gardner-Webb University, where I earned All-American honors and continued to develop both on and off the field. My experiences as a student-athlete helped shape the person and leader I am today.

Now, I have continued my passion for education and athletics by working in DeKalb County Schools, coaching high school football, and pursuing my Master’s degree in Secondary Education with a focus on Health and Physical Education. Today, I have the opportunity to mentor and develop the next generation of student-athletes while giving back to the community that helped shape me.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Khalon Manuel, class of 2019 Columbia High School. Khalon is currently one of youngest up and coming community leaders in Zone 6. He is one of the best barbers on the Eastside and he consistently gives back to his community. Whether it’s giving free cuts to football players at Columbia High or helping revamp football programs in the local parks.

Welcome to DeKalb 365!!! Today we are highlighting Damien Wimes, class of 1991 Southwest DeKalb High School. Coach Wimes has given 28 years of service to DeKalb County School District which includes 15 years as a Head Football Coach at Miller Grove, SWD, and Redan. Coach Wimes is currently teaching at MLK High School.
