From our first outdoor Learn to Curl in December 2017 (at 12°F 🥶) to now seeing play on a dedicated curling sheet, it has been an amazing journey supporting curling in Mammoth Lakes.

Through lessons, events, and equipment loans, we’ve loved helping the sport grow in the Eastern Sierra. It’s great to see how far curling has come, from bundled-up beginners on outdoor ice to play on indoor sheets.

Kudos to N Rec. for working through all the fundraising and construction logistics to build a fantastic year-round sports facility that now includes a dedicated curling sheet from October through April.

If you’re driving along US 395 on Sunday evenings, stop by for league night taking place throughout the building or come by any other time to rent the dedicated sheet for yourself.

Special thanks to Brent Halpenny for loaning the use of his (now sadly stolen) truck to haul equipment up to 7900 ft many times, to Alice Mansell for repeatedly teaching in the freeze, and Melissa McGuire, Queena Mewers, Gerry Vandevalk, Nick Kitinski, Katie Feldman, stefani, Anne Bonache, Brandon Wolf and Julie Wolf who have made the long trek to join the Mono County locals and help make the events happen.

Just 2 months away ... our "annual" (thanks, COVID!) event returns to Fresno April 8-10. Same format as before ... men's, women's, and open seniors on Friday and Saturday and mixed doubles extravaganza on Sunday, with slight adjustments depending on exact number of teams.

This year ... cash prizes for division winners. Okay, it's not much, but something for which to play ... $20*(number of teams that sign up) for mixed doubles and $40*(number of teams that sign up) for other division.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Alan Fraley.

In addition to serving as drawmaster of Friday night leagues in Oakland for many years, Alan was instrumental in helping revive curling in the Central Valley by doing demos and instructing at LTCs in Stockton and Fresno. We owe him a debt of gratitude for bringing the sport to many over the years. His diligent teaching skills and friendly personality will definitely be missed.

There are big changes coming to the World Curling Tour for the upcoming season in regards to ranking of teams and bonspiels.

The next season may be a little more complicated then past seasons, but we certainly are hopeful, that as many of our events as possible can be run. WCT is currently in the process of uploading its new website and we will support, as best we can, with providing constant information updates on all ou...
