The return of Stockton Harbors' active waterfront...

At the turn of the 20th century, Stockton Harbor was a seaport for transferring lumber and potatoes from rail to sailing ships. The remains of the original wharf pilings can be seen to this day. While the lobster fishery has taken advantage of the harbor for many years, it has not previously been a destination for cruising or other recreational

enthusiasts. Stockton residents decided to invest in the harbor with new launching and docking facilities, a pump out barge, 600' of floats, a provider of mooring and spar handling services and the commitment to further development. Fast forward to 2016. The purpose built Yacht Club structure, which has been sitting idle since its construction ten years ago, has been acquired by a local family of avid sailors who are dedicated to fulfilling the immense potential of Stockton Harbor and to maximizing the maritime experience for residents and visitors alike. Right now, local community volunteers and enthusiasts are coming together in support of this exciting new organization which is fast becoming a catalyst for the community, visitors and boating enthusiasts to come together and enjoy the beauty of Stockton Harbor - come explore the club and help build this community resource -become a Stockton Yacht Club member! Just message your membership request to us. Stockton Harbor has been recognized for centuries as the most secure and sheltered harbor in the Penobscot bay region. Its entrance is from the South, and it has steep hills to the North. The anchorage bends to the East giving protection from every direction and is often referred to as a "Hurricane Hole" by mariners familiar with Maine Coast and is the eastern-most port of call on Maine's Mid-Coast region before heading further into the Eggemoggin Reach, Fox Thoroughfare Islands and all points 'DownEast'.

As we ring in the New Year, we’re grateful for fair winds, good friends, and the shared love of Stockton Harbor and Penobscot Bay that brings us together. Here’s to more sunsets at anchor, more laughter on the docks, and many memorable days on the water ahead.

May the coming year bring smooth passages, strong tides, and plenty of reasons to gather—on shore and at sea. 🥂⛵

Fair winds and following seas in the year ahead!

The Stockton Harbor YC Cruising group enjoyed our second annual cruise to Swan's Island and the Sweet Chariot Music Festival (August 6 – 9).

We had 10 participants on five boats: Alchemy (C&C 27/Mk III), Eclipse (Beneteau 40), Good News (O'Day 30), Kraken (Kaiser 34), and Rita Marie (Mason 44), plus one dog and one cat.

In general, the weather was good, and despite a couple of days with light winds, we still had a couple of days when we were able to sail for part of the day. We also took pictures of each other's boats and the beautiful Maine coast (see pictures below).

In addition to our daily sails, our crews explored some of the incredible island hiking opportunities at Bear and Swan's Island. Evenings were mostly spent with the crew hanging out on the s/v Eclipse, sharing a beverage of choice and several communal / potluck-style meals, including one night with a fresh-baked lasagna! Everyone enjoyed our hangouts: sharing stories and knowledge, and scheming for next year's cruise! We also started gathering ideas for winter gatherings and learning opportunities for the coming year.

Thanks to all who participated! If you weren’t on the cruise this year now’s the time to start thinking about joining us next August.

Drew Moeller – this year’s cruise organizer.
