Martial Arts & Self Defense for ages 4 & Up. Infinity Martial Arts and Self Defense is owned and operated by Thomas and Melinda Wilson.

Melinda, the lead martial arts instructor has been training for nearly 18 years. Since 2005, she maintained a small martial arts school and has held classes in the Covenant Community School facilities. In 2012, Thomas began his martial arts training under Melinda. At his insistence, Melinda began an adult/teen class. Within a couple of months, Melinda’s martial arts school transitioned into Thomas

and Melinda’s martial arts school…although she is still the boss. In December 2013, the name of our school was changed to Infinity Martial Arts and Self-Defense. This change represented many things in our lives. Infinity: first and foremost this is a reflection of our faith in an infinite God. He is our reason for being. Secondly, we both have degrees in mathematics; Thomas from East Central University and Melinda from Oklahoma State University. We also married on National Pi Day, so it was only fitting that we had a mathematical component to our school. The martial arts portion is pretty obvious. We incorporated self-defense into our name for both of us. Thomas is a certified handgun instructor and teaches Oklahoma concealed/open handgun classes. This is one part of the self-defense component. I also am very passionate about women’s self-defense. While martial arts and firearms training are different disciplines, they both fit our passions and goals.

Our Story

Infinity Martial Arts and Self Defense is owned and operated by Thomas and Melinda Wilson. IMASD offers traditional martial arts classes to children, teens, and adults. They teach Youn Wha Ryu Tae Kwon Do. Youn Wha, using its abbreviated name, is a Korean martial art in origin that has influences from Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Hapkido, and Aiko. Melinda and Thomas are both American Master’s Martial Arts certified instructors. Melinda is the Head Instructor with more than 20 years of experience, while Thomas has been training for 6 years.

In 2017, IMASD began offering Vanguard Krav Maga classes as a part of their curriculum. After Thomas and Melinda completed their instructor certifications at the Academy of Self-Defense in San Jose, CA, Krav Maga classes began in July.

IMASD also offers fi****ms training and offers courses to obtain an Oklahoma handgun carry permit. Thomas is a National Rifle Association handgun instructor and has a lifetime of fi****ms shooting experience.

From 2005-2012 Infinity Martial Arts operated as Kickin’ It Martial Arts with Melinda Wilson as the owner and only instructor. During this time, the school only enrolled children as students. In 2012, Thomas began his martial arts training career. It was at this time, that adult student enrollment began. Both Thomas and Melinda felt that a new name was needed for the school. A name that would reflect their joint venture together, their unique and combined personalities, and their faith as Christians. As a result, Infinity Martial Arts and Self-Defense became the new name in 2013.

Melinda is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and Tulsa Community College. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and an Associate’s degree in Business Computer Applications. Her martial arts career started when she was a freshmen attending OSU. She is currently a 4th Dan Black belt in Youn Wha Ryu and is a Blue belt Instructor in Vanguard Krav Maga.

Thomas is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and East Central University. He has a Master’s degree in Biostatistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. His martial arts degree began after marrying Melinda. He is currently a 2nd Dan Black belt in Youn Wha Ryu and is a Blue belt Instructor in Vanguard Krav Maga. He is also an NRA certified handgun instructor.

Thomas and Melinda married on March 14, 2009 (National Pi Day). They are active members of Sunnybrook Christian Church.

What is Youn Wha Ryu Tae Kwon Do.

Youn Wha Ryu Tae Kwon Do is a Korean martial art. It was developed by Grandmaster Man He Han and was brought to the United States in the 1970’s. Youn Wha combines multiple disciplines, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Hapkido, and Aikido. The desire was to have a martial art system that incorporates kicking and punching techniques, with joint locks and self-defense.

What is Krav Maga

Krav Maga is an Israeli military self-defense system. It was developed by Imi Lichtenfeld for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Israeli security forces (Shin Bet and Mossad). Krav Maga has influences from multiple sources: boxing, wrestling, aikid, judo, and karate. While it does have influences from the martial arts, Krav Maga is not considered a martial art. Krav Maga trains individuals in how to decisively end a threat using whatever means necessary. Classes are very physically intense, yet enjoyable.
