When I first started seriously considering this venture of accepting outside horses, I made the decision from the beginning that I would intentionally keep my in-house client availability very limited.
Why?
Because every. single. horse in my care deserves the absolute best 1:1 attention I can give them. The VERY best. This is absolutely nonnegotiable.
When a horse comes here, as of now it's me and only me, from sun up to sun down (usually very far past the suns down ๐คฃ). I'm feeding, cleaning, exercising, providing therapies, monitoring them, and caring for every aspect of their day. It is me, every single step of the way.
Each individual horse receives 2โ3+ hours of dedicated, hands-on care every day outside of their normal feeding and daily management. That isn't something I'm willing to compromise on, and it's something I take immense pride in. I never want to feel that I need to put a time limit on what they need.
I don't just want to know these horses, I need to know them. Their normal. Their abnormal.
How they move
How they stand
Their expressions
Their personality
Their habits
Their little quirks
Beyond just the superficial layer, I make it a requirement to understand them as an individual and learn their normal routine, so I am able to identify their abnormal immediately. Even if it is ๏ฟผa just tiny detail thatโs out of whack. But, honestly, sometimes recognizing those seemingly small details can be a huge deal in the grand scheme of things.
Especially in rehabilitation, noticing the smallest change can make all the difference. Catching something early can change the entire course of a horse's recovery. And even more importantly, when these horses are here, I am their advocate. They don't have a voice, so it's my responsibility to be that voice for them. That is a responsibility I will never take lightly.
Providing truly individualized care means giving each horse exactly what they need, not what fits neatly into a scheduleโฆ Which if you know me, tends to never be a neat schedule anyways๐
Some horses need extra 1:1 time.

Some need a different approach.
That will ๐๐ฅ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฌ be okay.
Some simply need patience.
That will ๐๐ฅ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ๐ฌ be okay.
I never want to feel like I'm rushing through one horse because I'm already thinking about the next. That is absolutely not fair to the horse, and it certainly isn't fair to the owner who has trusted me with them.
And, because of that, these horses become so much more than clients.
They become family.
As corny as it may sound, they really do.
We spending countless hours together by the time they go home, learning every little detail about them, celebrating their victories, and working through their challenges. They leave a permanent mark in my heart. Every horse that walks through my barn adds another page to my storybook making me better at what I do.
That is something I never want to lose.
No horse will ever be "just another client" here. They will always be treated as an individual, with the time, patience, and attention they deserve.
At the end of the day, everything I do is because of the horse. Always. ๐
