The UWSP Club Sports Coalition provides an opportunity for UWSP students to participate in recreational sport clubs. With 30 different clubs to choose from, club sports encourages students to pursue an interest in recreation or sports. Our department assists these clubs in promoting their sport, provide storage for equipment, event planning, adhering to UWSP student organization policies, and provide financial knowledge and assistance.

‼️MEMBER SPOTLIGHT‼️ Today we are presenting Jarod Whaley. He is a junior here at UWSP studying Geography with a minor in GIS! Jarod has been participating in Archery Club for 3 years now!

Why do you participate in this club?
“I participate in this club because Archery has been a passion of mine since around the age of 8. I grew up shooting archery, as well as guns, with my father and older brother as a hobby, in which it grew from there. I have since traveled the state shooting competitions on the weekends, but UWSP allowed me to travel the country to do the same thing, and also compete against others my age. I came to UWSP partly because of knowing there was an archery team here I could participate in. I am super grateful I have been able to accomplish my expectations within this club while I have been here.”

What is your favorite memory/trip/activity and why?
“My favorite memory of this club would have to be the trip to Foley, Alabama for Outdoor 3D Nationals in the fall of 2018. We were 15 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico with beautiful weather at an amazing facility in which they hold the USA Archery circuit for professional archers. Just being able to spend a long weekend with some of my closest archery colleagues doing what we love the most. I enjoy 3D targets a lot more than shoot at spots, so this trip was an all around fantastic opportunity that I was able to be apart of.”

Do you have any awards from the club you have participated in?
“Unfortunately, I don't have any medals through the archery program but I did place 9th out of 60+ archers my freshman year in Outdoor Spot Nationals in Jackson, Mississippi. In my time in this club we have been able to grow it from 5 members to above 20 weekly members who come out and shoot with us during practice time. We were also able to team up with S3DA (K-12 archery) and create a shoot where we competed against 6 other colleges, along with the S3DA members. We hope to make this become a regular thing, and add to the potential as the years go by.”

Today we are featuring Antonio Lopez! He is a senior here at UWSP and has been playing Men’s Lacrosse all four years!

Why do you participate in this club?
“There are so many reasons why I play lacrosse here on campus. Yeah, it’s fast and it’s exciting, but the main reason I love lacrosse is the culture that comes along with it. Anyone that has played lacrosse or has been involved with the sport at all knows what I mean when I say the culture. It’s not the mid-calf socks, the helmet tilt, or being called a Lax bro. It’s a family. I play lacrosse because it has taught me so much about life, I can't imagine not participating in the sport that I love. Lacrosse has given me more than I can ever hope to give back. I play to spread the love and respect of this beautiful game.”

What is your favorite memory/trip/activity and why?
“I honestly can't think of a favorite moment... this is gunna sound cheesy, but every moment I've had playing on this team has been memorable and I can't pick just one.”

‼️CLUB OF THE WEEK‼️

Say hello to our Adventure club! The Adventure Club is an organization dedicated to the exploration of the unknown; to travel to parts beyond for the sole sake of the journey. These journeys consist of various physically demanding outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, backpacking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, and any other conceivable activity of this nature. They aim to increase members’ knowledge and experience of these activities through jaunts and journeys throughout the state and country. The goal of the Adventure Club is to subsidize travel expenses and maintain a collection of community equipment to facilitate these expeditions so that UWSP students can be enriched by some of the most fulfilling pursuits on earth.
