When working with any athlete, but especially younger athletes who are not in the top 0.1% of body awareness the way some big leaguers are, you have to be aware of the fact that they may not be physically able to identify the feeling that you are asking them to. Starting them in the correct position via a constraint drill is a huge first step in the right direction, but ultimately their motor learning will be quicker and more permanent if they learn to feel the position for themselves. We will sometimes use the pantherteckat to give the athlete tactile feedback (via vibration) to let them know that they are in the correct position. This allows the athlete to move freely without constraint while still getting immediate feedback on where the correct position is. The athlete’s ability to recreate that movement without the feedback improves dramatically and quickly.
