We are a community of like minded individuals that want to live their lives to a higher standard. Our coaching, training, and methodology is centered around functional fitness/movements at high intensity. We constantly vary workouts, which is important for many reasons. We strive to
prepare people to be better at life whether that be helping a friend move, playing with your kids, or shoveling snow. Life can be unpredictable and preparing for the unknown is a part of survival. Functional movements can be defined as multi-joint movements that require utilizing more than one body part to achieve a task. No one lifts a heavy box from the ground to a shelf with just their biceps nor does anyone move a couch with just their hamstrings so we center our training around performing functional movements that prepare us for whatever life throws at us. High intensity can be a tricky term to define as it is all relative to each individual workout. There are workouts that intensity is defined by how quickly you can complete the workout while others are defined by how much weight you can lift. All workouts are infinitely scalable to suit any possible fitness level. Every athlete will perform the same workout; however, the degree at which the workout is performed will vary depending upon the athlete. Unicus Functional Fitness takes the emphasis off of the scale and mirror (where most people get discouraged), and shifts the focus to times and weights. As athletes continue to improve their times and weights lifted, the improvement on the scale and mirror will be unavoidably noticed. Our community at Unicus Functional Fitness is what sets us apart as we perform all workouts in a group setting where encouraging each other as much as possible is the norm. In our community the person who finishes last gets the loudest cheers. Our community is a family where we are all there to help make each person better at not only fitness, but life. Athletes are held accountable by one another and pushed farther than they ever would with headphones in trying to do this on their own. The camaraderie present in our gym is similar to that of a sports team or a workplace as everyone encourages, empowers, and believes in one another. We hang out with each other outside of the gym and help one another out when in need. This is a family. Unicus means uncommon in Latin and this is the basis of our philosophy as a community. We strive to push our athletes to live their lives uncommonly. Every person has the ability to be uncommon; meaning living with passion and purpose. It is easy to settle for mediocrity in life as it takes little effort and no risk. We as a community strive for a higher level of purpose that in return makes us better as athletes, but more importantly as people.
