Loudoun Half Races

The Ashburn Area Running Club was excited for the possibilities of bringing you the 8th running of the Loudoun Half Races, however, as a non-profit organization operated by volunteers, we have thought long and hard about how to move forward with the 2021 event during the current COVID-19 times. Regrettably, we have come to the difficult decision to cancel the event for 2021.

With COVID-19 still very much a part of the community, we feel the best decision for the Loudoun Half Races is to not offer the event for 2021. It is our hope we will be back at the start line in 2022 ready to gather as a running community safe and healthy.

For those of you who joined us virtually in 2020 with hopes of a 2021 race, we will be in touch with more information on your registration process for 2022.

Thank you for your continued support of our event which has donated over $100,000 to local Loudoun County Public School’s track and field & cross country teams since our race began seven years ago.

Welcome to your VIRTUAL race week! Here's a look at your 2020 medal(s).

Plan to run YOUR race whenever you can! We are excited to see your virtual start and finish selfies!

Keep in mind, medals will be available for pick for those registered participants who live locally, after the stay at home order has been lifted (currently scheduled for June 10). Pick up locations TBA.

With the continued changes an impact the Coronavirus is having on our community, and after multiple conversations with our local government and health officials, the Ashburn Area Running Club - AARC has made the difficult decision to cancel the 7th running of the Loudoun Half Races scheduled for April 18 & 19, 2020.

We know this comes as yet another disappointment in a long string of races that have had to cancel their running events, but we feel this decision is the right one for our participants, sponsors, partners, volunteers and community.

Please be patient as we work through the details of what a cancellation means to registered runners. Keep an eye on your inbox, as a detailed email will be sent to registered runners in the coming days.

The Ashburn Area Running Club - AARC is excited to be working to bring you the 7th running of the Loudoun Half Races.

At this time, there are no changes to any of our races. We are moving forward as planned and scheduled. We are monitoring the local impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus), following the advice of the World Health Organization and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention as well as staying in contact with Loudoun County officials for updates and recommendations. It is our top priority to bring a healthy and safe event to our running community.

As runners ourselves, we encourage you to listen to you body leading up to race weekend and to follow appropriate health guidelines to ensure you are well enough to participate in any race event.

We want everyone to do their best to keep our running community safe. We will provide ongoing updates to you on the Loudoun Half Races as necessary via the event website, email, and social media.

10 weeks out from Race Day! Here's a snap shot of this weeks training recommendation:
-Midweek workout: Hill Repeats – Find a hill that takes you 60 seconds to run up. Run up and down the hill 4 times maintaining threshold pace.
-Midweek Run: 5 – 6 miles at an easy/long pace.
-Interval workout: 4 – 6 x 800m at 10k pace and rest for 90 seconds between each one.
-Long Run: 7 – 8 miles at easy/long pace.
