We want to thank everyone for the overwhelming support you’ve shown during this difficult time. Your texts, emails, calls, and messages have not gone unnoticed—we see them, we feel them, and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as we can.
At this point, we’re still assessing the damage and trying to determine what can be salvaged. In terms of the school itself, we were fortunate not to lose many supplies or furniture. Our primary focus right now is mitigating flood damage and ensuring a safe environment moving forward. We are hopeful, but not certain just yet, to have school next Tuesday. We want to finish the year with OUR KIDS and celebrate them. AWARDS, FIELD DAY, CELEBRATIONS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY GRADUATION!!!! Our staff are working hard and around the clock to do our best to make it happen! We will let everyone know as soon as possible if we get the green light to hold classes next week.
However, our athletic facility tells a different story.
We suffered a near-total loss—the field, the track, bleachers, the field house, scoreboards, football and baseball equipment, the weight room, and the concession stand were all destroyed. We are currently working with our insurance provider, engineers, and architect to assess the full scope of the damage. It’s clear that the athletic facility will require a complete rebuild.
While the road ahead brings many unknowns, one thing is certain: we are GORDON STRONG and we will rebuild.
So many of you have asked how to help. Right now, our greatest need is funding to replace lost equipment so our students can continue with summer workouts and prepare for the upcoming football season. We have set up an account to accept donations, and anything you are able to give is deeply appreciated.
We know there will be unforeseen damages and costs at all our facilities. Even our buses sustained damage. Every building sustained damage.
