Youth Football Update – McCreary County
We are excited to announce that the school board has voted to bring the Youth Football program back under the McCreary County School District! This change brings several updates designed to enhance the experience for our students, families, and community.
Key Updates for the 2026 Season:
• Independent Program: Our youth program will no longer be part of the PCYFL. Instead, we will operate as an independent program through the school district.
• Conference Play: We will join the United Cumberland Youth Football Conference, which will make up the majority of our games. This ensures structured competition and a conference tournament at the end of the year, giving our players the opportunity to compete for a championship.
• Home Games & Facilities: Being part of the school district allows us to host home games and use school facilities, including turf fields, enhancing the experience for players and families.
• Teams by Elementary School: Each elementary will field one team per grade division:
o 1st & 2nd grade
o 3rd & 4th grade
o 5th & 6th grade
• 6th Grade Football: Sixth graders will no longer play at the middle school level but will remain at the elementary level for one additional year. This allows a smoother transition to middle school and provides a more personalized football experience with dedicated 5th and 6th grade coaches.
• Program Leadership: Each elementary will have a Youth Football Director who works closely with the District Athletic Director and school administration to coordinate practice schedules, team management, equipment, and other program needs.
In the coming weeks, we will begin advertising youth football sign-ups and will provide more information as the process unfolds.
These changes are designed to grow the sport of football in our community, support our families, and ensure that McCreary County kids have the same opportunities to succeed right here at home.
