Labor Day looks a little different at the barn 🐴

The horses still need to be fed, the track still needs to be mucked, and the work never truly stops, but when you love what you do, the long days are always worth it. Thank you to my hardworking team most of all, and our hardworking horses!

Today, we celebrate the hands that keep our farms, barns, businesses, and communities going. Happy Labor Day from our herd to yours!

My Pride And Joy- “Westwinds El Dorado” ❤️ who carries my dreams on his back and quietly whispers to me that we will get there someday as he gains his strength and weight back. He makes me believe in well…. Everything. The reason behind the rhyme. The freeness of speech I have when I tell my students to shoot for the stars. He’s mine. He’s my 🌟 star. Lights up my Sky in Sky’s The Limit. Because he’s been there. He’s jumped the moon and he knows what’s up there. I pray he shows me what it’s like to fly someday.

My beautiful Hanovarian cross filly “You Give Me Butterflies” 🦋.

“Kick me once, shame on you- kick me twice, shame on me”. It has been roughly 7 days since Pippis last crime. We have been carefully working through all the side eyes we’ve been giving to each other because I think both of us feel a little bit hurt by what happened. I’m not sure that babies are my thing lol, but helping horses certainly is - and boy do I understand working through trauma. Here’s to hoping we can get through the next few weeks and come out of it better team.

I had the best ride today! I’m not saying I don’t love a good crisp competition picture of me and my horses looking and feeling our BEST. But what percentage of the time is that? So many equine professionals have those defining moments plastered to their wall, but how many of those does one person get - even in a lifetime? This picture is a good example of how an imperfect moment in time can be captured and exploited if you let it lol. Or you can just giggle off the imperfections and “love what you do” as Keezlenutten says. This little pony made me look dang good for most of the ride and I have video proof of it, but this is what I wanted to share. this moment of me, adjusting split reins for the first time I have ridden in them in probably a decade shows me OUT OF PRACTICE, learning, and LIVING my best life. In sneakers at that!! Thank you Don Schram for normalizing that for me. Riding is like any other aspect of life, we will always have to focus on the good, but we can also choose to turn the “bad” into good too. If we just focus on growing and learning and what went right, everything is beautiful. Especially what isn’t perfect. That is one of the many lessons that I want to become my legacy through the riders I bring into the equine world. 👌🏼❤️🦄 kick on!

You know when you get up there on the stage at American Idol and sing your heart out but they tell you you’re not ready yet? Maybe someday? And your heart sinks into your left foot because you already DID make those big girl moves and put yourself out there, but they’re saying you needed to do it more often so now you should go back to your basement and sing? 🎶 me neither. I never tried out- but I identify right now. Fingers crossed… and as always- p**p to dodge along the trail we blaze 😂

All In A Day’s Work- American Girl Doll Bridle Fixing ❤️🐴👌🏼 it actually took little Harper quite a while to admit why she had to bring her pony and doll down to the barn. Her mom insisted she leave them in the car, until I explained that it was OK and I wanted to see them. I explained that I would have to meet them after the lesson and she brought them from the picnic table up by the ring down to the stable area. I asked their names and got introduced after which she explained that her pony had a bridle but it was broken or something and she couldn’t put it on. Little Harper is a new horseback rider and doesn’t understand how to tack up yet. I picked up the mangled and twisted pieces of plastic and gently unfolded them, thinking about myself as a little girl and all of the tangled bridles I had worked through before. I thought about how I finally understood why she had to bring her pony to the one person she knew could help them, and still how hard it was for her to reach out for that help. She’s not a shy kid but the tone was very serious, which let me know how important this was to her. It made my heart smile to be that safe space for her even as a new rider- an “expert” American girl doll pony tacker. My favorite job today. ❤️
