We host Kayak Bass Fishing Tournaments, raise money for our veterans, and take them fishing. REEL Heroes was founded in 2023 with a simple goal in mind; raising money for veterans through kayak fishing. In the summer of 2024 REEL Heroes hosted their first tournament fishing event and raised over 44 thousand dollars in cash donations for our veterans, and over 100k in tangible donations from supporting businesses. All money raised was donated to Purple Heart Homes who assists veterans with housing assistance, and much more. With the rapid growth of the REEL Heroes event, the organization soon became a “chapter” of Purple Heart Homes, but remains a stand alone 501(c)(3) with their own board of directors (Jon House, Fenway & Wes). The main REEL Heroes Fishing Tournament is on Lake Norman NC. (Normally the weekend following the 4th of July) As REEL Heroes continues to grow, the organization is beginning to offer events in other states across the US in an effort to raise money for our veterans. REEL Heroes has also teamed up with other trails including Tennessee & Georgia B.A.S.S Nation Kayak Series, and BASS Champs. The REEL Heroes directors are also “Pro Staff Anglers” for Purple Heart Homes. Outside of the tournament fishing events, Jon, Fenway & Wes find veterans and take them fishing. Veterans often struggle when returning home. Being on the water can sometimes “cut off the noise” and help our veterans remember what is most important.
