🇵🇷 ROAD TO EL JUNTE — EPISODE 3
THE WORK BEFORE THE BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS
The Instagram photo will be beautiful. The training that creates it isn't always. 😂

December looks like:
🇵🇷 Puerto Rico
🚴 friends
🌴 beautiful roads
😂 relajo
📸 incredible memories
But right now?
Our Capoheart friends are TRAINING.
Early alarms.
Long miles.
Consistency.
Heat.
Group discipline.
Fueling.
Mechanical preparation.
And getting back on the bike when staying in bed sounds like an excellent alternative.
That's one reason I'm enjoying following this journey.

Before these same friends come north for the Empire State Ride 2027, we're getting to watch the work happening long before the big moment.
So let's give them some Team Borikén energy today:
What's something you would tell somebody training for a three-day cycling adventure that has NOTHING to do with getting faster?

Road to "El Junte": Meet the People - but NO résumés allowed.

When we start introducing Team Borikén and Capoheart riders on the Road to Empire State Ride 2027, we don't want:
“Roberto has cycled for 12 years and completed X events.”
I want:
“Juan is the guy who somehow knows when everyone needs food.”
or
“María laughs louder when the climb gets harder.”
So here's the experiment:
Describe YOUR cycling personality in one tiny scene.

Professional road season ending ≠ cycling season ending.

The top-level road calendar is reaching its late-season finish.
But normal cyclists have a luxury professionals don't:
We can redefine the season.
Less speed.
More skills.
Different routes.
Indoor work.
Social rides.
Recovery.
Exploration.
What does your offseason that isn't really an offseason look like?

The fall ride nobody regrets starts with the part everyone wants to skip: warming up.

Cold legs + immediate enthusiasm isn't always a beautiful partnership.
Instead of chasing numbers in the first few minutes, let the body arrive at the ride.
What's your personal sign that you've finally “settled in” and the ride has started feeling good?

Cycling etiquette test: the group gets a flat. Who does what?

One rider punctures.
Six riders stop.
Within 20 seconds:
one person has the wheel off,
three people are offering pumps,
one is directing traffic safely,
one is eating,
and one is providing completely unnecessary commentary. 😂
What's the BEST role to take when somebody else has the mechanical under control?

Science Behind the Mission #2: cancer can change how cells use energy.

Today and tomorrow, Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is hosting a conference focused on tumor metabolism.
In plain English, metabolism is about how cells obtain and use energy and building materials.
Cancer researchers study these processes because cancer cells can use them differently.
That's the kind of science hidden behind the simple phrase:
“We ride to support cancer research.”
What part of cancer biology would you like translated into plain language next?

Today the world's best track riders remind us: bicycles can be fast without going anywhere near a hill.

Track Worlds begin in Shanghai today.
No potholes.
No café stop.
No scenic overlook.
Just precision, tactics and speed.
Which cycling discipline outside road cycling would you most like to try for one supervised day—and what fascinates you about it?

Cyclist horror movie: “I heard a noise.”

Nothing transforms a peaceful ride faster.

“What was that?”

“Okay. Definitely something.”
Write the next scene of the movie.
Wrong answers encouraged. 😂

🇵🇷 ROAD TO EL JUNTE — EPISODE 2

THE ISLAND IS PART OF THE RIDE
Some rides give you miles. This one gives you Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷

Think about this route for a moment.
You leave San Juan.
By the end of three days, you've ridden through very different faces of Puerto Rico and returned to where you started.
That's what fascinates me about Around the Island with the Capoheart's.
A bicycle moves slowly enough to notice things a car lets you miss:
the air changing,
the smell of food from somewhere nearby,
the mountains appearing ahead,
the ocean returning beside you,
a town waking up,
people calling out from the roadside,
and the tiny details that tell you exactly where you are.

So Puerto Rico cyclists, become our tour guides today:
Along San Juan → Guayama → Mayagüez → San Juan, what moment, view, town, food stop or stretch of Puerto Rico would you tell us NOT to miss?
We're taking notes. 😎📝

Your legs are tired. Your brain says “skip it.” This is where habits beat motivation.

Not every ride needs inspiration.
Sometimes the useful habit is simply making the start easier:
clothes ready,
bottles prepared,
route decided,
bike ready.
What's one piece of friction you can remove tonight that makes tomorrow's ride more likely?
