Absolutes. It is so tempting to search for absolutes. I know I have clients who want me to say there is one perfect alignment, one perfect way to lift, one perfect way to move, one perfect way to do things to heal, to feel better, to get out of pain.

One of the things I’m most grateful for on my personal journey with movement is becoming comfortable in the gray of it all. There is no one thing that is right all the time. And while somethings may appear to be better it doesn’t mean the others are bad. My job is helping clients navigate the grey and make it a less intimidating place to be.

I LOVE wearing barefoot shoes. I feel so much more comfortable throughout my day with my wide toe box and flexible sole.

AND it’s really fun to put on heels and feel sexy while out on a date with my husband! I can have both. And I can be grateful that all the time I spend barefoot has made my feet resilient so that a night of heels isn’t that bad!

It’s not barefoot=good traditional=bad. It’s morally neutral. It’s gray. And that leaves so much more room for creativity, play, and discovery.

Loved waking to this message from a new client I met with yesterday!!

They have been trying all the things for hip pain-chiros, PTs, stretching.

They said they had been following me for a while and finally decided it was time to try a new route. Does sound like you?

You could be sending me the next celebration message I receive! DM 🎉 and we will get you on my schedule!!

🤩Alignment😎 Is it everything? The unsung superhero of pain relief??

While alignment isn’t a magic fix, it can give us a lot of insight into what’s happening in the body. And becoming aware of it and playing with it can help us move better.

In the first picture you can see how my hips are pressing forward. This makes my hamstrings tighter, doesn't allow for my glutes to activate properly, and puts my in a suboptimal position to do its job. For me hips forward also means my pelvis tucks under (where is my 🍑 in the first pic?).

While this position in and of itself isn’t bad, if it’s the only position I’m in, my body, my core and pelvic floor might have something to say about it.

In the second picture my hips are stacked over my ankles (there’s my 🍑!). Now gravity is passing through my skeleton, the front of my hips aren’t having to do so much supporting, my low back gets its natural curve back, my glutes can do their job, and my pelvis comes to a more neutral position.

Check yourself. Do you always have your hips forward? What would it be like to invite them back a little bit? Start small. The next time you’re washing dishes, notice if your hips are leaning toward the counter. What’s it like to get the weight a little more back in your heels?

It's also really beneficial to add in movements that will strengthen the muscles to support you in your new found alignment! Need help knowing what to do? I'm here for you! DM 🍑 and we can help you find your glutes too!

Wednesday I went in to have a melanoma removed from my foot. They went ahead and plucked some lymph nodes while I was there to be cautious.

Now I have a hole in my foot that needs to heel. A different kind of healing than I’ve done before. And it sucks. It’s hard. Physically, emotionally, mentally.

I find myself thinking of some truths that I tell clients all the time:
🌈The body is exquisite at healing.
🌈Healing takes time.
🌈Healing is non-linear.
🌈Rest is productive.
🌈Be careful of the stories you tell yourself

And yet, I’m still human. I’m impatient. I forget to trust the bodies process. I feel lazy and achey from being in bed all day. I fall for the stories in my head that things won’t be the same.

And so I’ll take a breath. I’ll move the parts of me I can so I can connect with my body. I’ll make space for those feelings to be heard. I’ll honor the fragile place my heart is in right now. And I’ll try to remind myself of the above truths. And I’ll give myself grace.

I hope wherever you are with your healing journey you can hold on to these truths and find grace for yourself.

And please, get regular skin checks!
