This is awesome!, this resident converted an old gas outdrive to an electric drive!..
his intention was to maintain the "integrity" of this old boat, so he removed the engine, replacing it with a battery under the cover, and replaced the lower drive with a Minkota electric drive!...

if you see him on the lake, congratulate him on his ingenuity!

Its a wild summer on the lake, people from everywhere!

The Sky is not falling!...
Seems some people have heard the word Botulism and started spreading doom, it is not the case, the sky is not falling and our water is still safe for us to enjoy!

This time of the year there is always a concern about Avian Botulism, low water levels and high temperatures create the perfect environment for it to happen, we've had a number of deceased ducks on the lake lately, a number of carcasses have been taken by the DWR for analysis,. now dont freak out by the word Botulism!... this is avian Botulism and it poses no risk to humans!

It is caused by a number of factors coming together, but most prominently by excessively warm stagnant water, such as we are experiencing due to this heat wave. I was touring the lake with the Agriculture and Fish expert today taking water samples and except for low oxygen content in some inlets only the temperature of the water was noteworthy.. 79degrees surface temperature is excessively warm, and with the evaporation exceeding the input the lake level has dropped almost 6inches leaving organically littered shoreline and this has created an environment which could promote this Avian issue. I attach the following link to the USGS, a great amount of information including periods of these outbreaks ( of which we are in prime time).http://www.nwhc.usgs.gov/publications/field_manual/chapter_38.pdf

Please review this information, knowlege is power... the best thing we can do is remove any carcases as soon as possible to break the cycle that may infect other birds..

“Botulism-intoxicated waterfowl can recover from the disease. If sick birds are provided with freshwater and shade, recovery rates of 75 to 90 percent and higher can result “

As soon as results are back I will update right away.

Oh- the w**d boat and the “aqua-shade” will be in the lake pretty soon, the w**ds are important to the ecosystem of the lake and the Service Agency chose to let the w**ds establish as they filter the water, but they are now ready for trimming and we will be taking care of it…//Scott

Sunday morning, 100+ nice Bass hanging around boat dock!.. not only the recent plants.. but some nice sized ones too... Monday PM - water covered with dead Mosquito larvae... Tuesday AM, lots of dead bass around the boat ramp!... Suspect that Mosquito abatement sprayed and the lil fish ate the poisened larvae and died.. this theory supports the recent complaints of " little green spots:" on plastic, furniture, boats and anything left outside.. these "spots" seem to corespond with the larvae kills ( suspected spraying )... but this time it appears that the fish suffered as well.. I've left a message with the Tooele Mosquito abatement but have yet to receive a call back.. I will update as soon as I hear something.....

The water temperature and water were perfect for a first "stocking" of the lake, this was a small one-only about 20 fish/acre but it should make a difference....
3,500 bluegill and bass fingerlings were released a week ago.. no visible loss, but the Greebs and gulls are eating some.. guess that part of the game... I’ve seen the fingerlings make it all around the lake, the good news is the pelicans are not storming the lake and hopefully a good percentage of these fingerlings should mature and spawn next spring..

Water quality is excellent, algae is just enough to promote food growth for them, and it doesnt look like were going to need Aqua Shade this year... will continue to monitor and respond as required.. still going to drop pro-biotics in areas that need it, but its only for cosmetic purposes now...

Stansbury Park Lake Electric Motor Policy - Updated March 9, 2007
The Stansbury Service Agency Board of Trustees (SSABT) has decided to allow the limited use of electric motors on personal watercraft on Stansbury Lake. The trustees desire that all residents of the lake have full access of the lake, and that electric motors would facilitate and enhance that use. The board is also cognizant of the potential problems that such use would create, so it is adopting a set of rules and procedures to govern such motor usage. The board instituted this program on a trial basis in 2003 to evaluate the impact of the program on the lake and on residents. This policy was made permanent in 2004.

The SSABT hereby resolves that residents of Stansbury Park can use electric motors on private watercraft on Stansbury Lake under the following conditions.

Residency: Only the residents of Stansbury Park, or their accompanied guests, are allowed to use the Stansbury Park Lake. This policy applies to watercraft owned and operated by permanent residents of Stansbury Park. Use of the lake by non-residents or of non-resident-owned watercraft is prohibited.

Motor Size: Electric motors are limited to 30 pounds of thrust or 1/2 horsepower, whichever is greater. Only a single electric motor is allowed per watercraft. The presence of any gasoline or diesel motor, operating or not is prohibited on any watercraft on Stansbury Lake. Batteries must be secured to the watercraft.

Operation of motors: Operators must conform to the State of Utah boating regulations regarding the use of motorized watercraft. The minimum age of the operator is 16 years old for unrestricted use, and 12 years of age in line-of-sight with an accompanying adult. Those regulations include the presence of lifejackets for each and everyone in the craft, the safe operation of the craft and the use of state-approved running lights after dark. The entire Stansbury Lake is designated a no-wake zone for operators of motorized watercraft. Operators of electric motors are required not to leave a wake behind them.

Disruptive activities: Operators of a motorized watercraft must operate their craft in a non-disruptive manner. They are required to abide by the noise ordinances of Tooele County, which prohibits loud music or activities after 10:00 pm. Operators of an electric-powered watercraft are also prohibited from operating the motor within 20 feet of any shoreline, with the exception of launching and recovering the watercraft.

Registration: Operators of electric motors are required to register their motor with the Stansbury Service Agency in advance of operation. A fee of $5.00 will be charged to defray the cost of registration stickers. A registration must be obtained from the Stansbury Service Agency at its offices during normal business hours. Applicants must also present the motor they are registering for inspection at the time of registration. Non-conforming motors will not be registered. After completing an approved registration form, applicants will receive a motor registration sticker, which must be permanently attached and displayed at all times on the motor.

Enforcement: Stansbury Lake is a private lake. Unauthorized use of the lake, or unauthorized use of electric motors on the lake is considered trespass. The Stansbury Service Agency reserves the right to enforce trespass violation of the lake and can and will report them to the Tooele County Sheriff's Department for prosecution. Violations of the rules of operation of electric motors on Stansbury Lake may result in the revocation at any time of an individual's motor registration and authorization to use an electric motor. The SSABT also reserves the right to waive the motor size limit and speed rules for enforcement purposes.

The SSABT has approved a registration form for the use of electric motors.

The SSABT acting in an official capacity will be the final board of arbitration on any enforcement action for violations of the electric motor rules. The SSABT and Stansbury Service Agency employees are authorized to perform required enforcement activities, including issuing warnings and citations for violations.

The SSABT reserves the right to make any and all changes to the Stansbury Lake policies at any time regarding the use of electric motors on the lake.

Report back from USU laboratories shows no issues with the lake water, with this information I am going to initiate an experimental treatment with pro-biotics to aid in the consumption of excessive fish by-product and algae. This will be a light application to test effectivness on smell and algae, I will update ya'll on the results in a week or three as feed back comes in.. also.. Looking for fishing results from all residents, I've seen some catches, but I am interested in species, size, and apparent health.. please send me an email at [email protected].. thank you all for your assistance../scott
