A new world record grizzly bear for the largest hunter-killed specimen has been confirmed by the Boone and Crockett Club after a massive boar taken near Norton Sound, Alaska in September 2024 by Wisconsin hunter Brian Van Lanen scored 27 9/16 inches on its skull following the mandatory drying and official measurement process. This makes it the biggest hunter-killed grizzly ever entered in the B&C record books and displacing the previous hunter-harvested record. The all-time skull record of 27 13/16 inches was set on a naturally deceased bear found in 1976 by Gordon Scott.
