I have a bittersweet announcement that I've had the ability to share with the current team and families, but wanted to share out beyond that. This past Fall Season was my final as the Head Coach of NorthXC, as I have accepted the Coaching positions at the new Hartwood HS opening in the Fall 2026.
While the exact structure of the Coaching for Winter and Spring Track hasn't fully materialized, I know I will be able to do what I've hoped to do for years now, and that's Coach throughout the year and help grow the distance program into a well oiled machine year in and year out. Being on Staff for XC, as well as Winter and Spring Track, is what made Hartwood an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I'm vying to be a Head Coach for both Track seasons, but those decisions have not yet begun.
North has been my home away from home since November 2017, and my colleagues and Admin have been more than I could ever ask for. Erin, Nick, Matt, Kerlin, Andrew and Emily have been individuals who all have grown me into the Coach I am now, and who I know I want to be for Hartwood year round. Leaving and no longer wearing that signature orange is very, very tough, but it is time for me to move on to the next opportunity.
I leave behind a Boys team I do not look forward to competing against, as they will be strong, and deep! The reigning and defending Boys XC Champ will lead a very fun group into what should be an impressive next 3 years, and I look forward to seeing all they achieve no matter who steps into that Coaching role. The Girls team has some very fun and strong young ladies who are going to continue their rebuilding a team ready to vault into the conversation, and they absolutely will do it.
Since 2018, NorthXC student-athletes have earned 19 All-District selections, 10 All-Region honors, and 3 landed on the All-State team. We also captured both the 2020 Commonwealth District Championship and the 2020 Region 5D Championship, culminating in a top-four finish at the VHSL State Championships. I've also been blessed to have 2 District Individual Champions (including the 2025 Champ) and 1 Regional Individual Champion, with three teams qualifying for the State Championship. It's been a lot of fun seeing such success from a program that has given to me far more than I've given to it.
I could list every runner that's ever left an impression on me, but it would literally be every single one of them. Not just those who brought the accolades, but the ones who made each day a joy to be around making them do the one thing they complained about having to do the most, RUN. Thank you thank you thank you to every single one of you, you're not just names on a roster, you're my example of lifelong remembrances of why Coaches love what they do.
While it's on to new horizons, and a completely new wardrobe, if you ever need anything, you know how to find me!
