A special moment for us.
Jiu Jitsu black belt promotions are always too much to “post” about - there’s too much story, too much time to cover, too many events to remember, too many people to thank…

If you train, then you understand.
If you don’t train, you probably should.

Martin & I decided some time ago, that when the time came, we would promote Colonel McCarthy to black belt together. Today was the day and it did not disappoint.

To have the Commanding Officer of the Marine Corps “Basic School” (aka TBS) receive his well-earned Jiu Jitsu black belt on the Ramer Hall mat - home of his own “CO’s Open Mat” which he established during his command here - was a true “half-circle” moment.
I say “half” because we are not done.

Bob McCarthy is simply an exemplary Marine and he strives to set the right example in every way he can.

He is a Marine’s Marine - among the least selfish and genuinely committed (to his Marines & our Corps) Colonel’s I have the pleasure to get to know. I am especially honored to promote him as KOA’s 26th black belt.

Bob is also Martin’s 2nd black belt. We broke the mold on this one for our Corps - the first lineage of all Marines who train is our Corps.

Thank you especially to LtCol (sel) Martin Thomas for the many years of working on this mission together.
