WTK Race Recap #9 07/27 🏎️🫡
Just catching up now on race recap for the WTK and it was eventful to say the least! The night started off good, went a little bit sideways (literally), but overall ended well!
The track was wicked slow in practice, so the SCM crew tried a couple different things out and man did they work! Ended P2 on the time chart for both practices, which was good since I would have to start dead last in the heat (due to a good 3rd place finish the week prior)!
In the heat, I started 6th and was quickly able to make my way through the field and take over the lead by lap 3! This added another heat race win to the SCM book.
For the feature, I started P4 and quietly stayed there while being stuck on the outside for the first 7 laps before a caution occurred. This is where the night went sideways… on lap 8 (not sure what happened as I had been on the outside for most of the race by now racing with the same 4 cars), I got “clipped” and tried to drive up and away from the other driver. With that having no effect, I had to try to turn myself nerf bar out in order to protect myself and the kart before the ENTIRE field piled on top! Every kart from P3-P21 was involved (definitely one of the biggest wrecks I’ve seen & been involved in my 13 seasons in karts). Luckily, no one was seriously injured and the on-track workers were quick to help and check in on everyone! Shout out to Wade and everyone that helps with WTK.
I thought my night was over, but I was optimistic and wasn’t leaving “my ship” until an official made it clear I was done… and that’s when magic happened! Somehow the only damage done was losing breaks and lots of body damage.
Fortunately, I was confident I could handle the kart with no breaks, so to the rear of the field I went (P13). There was 10 laps left and through perseverance, heads-up & strategic driving, and confidence I was able to make my way back up to the front and take home a P4 finish!
After doing maintenance this past weekend, the kart was a total mess and there was some chassis damage found to the rock guard bar along with extensive body damage, but nevertheless it’s all fixed and with a surprise! 😉
Can’t thank Paul Boivin enough for always giving me the best equipment week in and week out, never having to question if the #26 Sr. Outlaw Kart will be speedy 🏎️💨
Race #10 on 08/03 was rained out, so the next kart race is 08/10!
