Senior Tribute: Classic Aberdeen

Classic my goat. I can’t believe this ride is coming to an end! I feel so incredibly lucky to have gotten to hang with you for the past three years. Running college football with you, goofing off at the door and just being around you has given me enough memories for a lifetime and I honestly can’t imagine St. Mary’s without you around.

I still remember last year at nudie greens where I wore your face on a flag and when we went on the Dove. We’ve done some crazy stuff and honestly I can’t believe I have been talked into half of these things but I couldn’t imagine doing them with anyone but you.

I could probably go on for hours about F1, missing gala and a whole other list of egregious incidents, but I want you to know that I (and Ismussy) are really gonna miss you. I know you’re gonna be a goated teacher, but you still definitely have to come back every once in a while!

Peace out Mr. A

Senior Spotlight: William Kendrick

A swimmer? A rower? How about both. Will is a friend I’ve gotten to know over the three years I’ve started rowing for this school, and it has been an absolute pleasure and honor. I honestly can’t imagine swimming competitively over the fall, and then some over the spring, and having enough “will” to row alongside us. One of the fastest men in the history of our rowing team, he’s constantly been the powerhouse anchor for our boat. His dedication to the sport carries over to school as well. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen the guy stay up in LC for hours grinding on homework and exams just to show up at 05:00 am the next morning ready to move that boat. It’s not easy being a bio/biochem major, a swimmer, and a rower, and we see that man. It’s truly a marvel to see how far you’ve come and how devoted you are to what you do, and though I can’t say the same about your leis skills (horrendous), I can say that you my friend are going to be incredibly successful knowing the effort you put into everything you do. It’s an honor to know you and can’t wait to see what you do.

Love, Yaffet & CB

Senior Spotlight: Emma Shepard

Sometimes you make a friend that makes you feel a little bit more human, and for me Emma has been that friend. She can always be counted on to run an efficient practice, or to goof off with the coxswains, no matter the day. She’s kind and passionate, and puts a frankly impressive amount of dedication into her coxing. She knows her stuff, and is never hesitant to lend a helping hand.
Outside of practice, Emma and I have really grown close over the past year. Our endless Taco Bell runs and coxswain bonding events in our apartment are some of my favorite memories from the past year, and while we will carry on, they won’t feel the same without Emma. We’ve swapped stories, carpool driving duty, and the occasional frustration, and I’ve come to really lean on her. She’s always willing to listen and offer advice if needed, or just throw on her gnome hat and call it a day. There’s so much more I could say about Emma, but I’ll leave off by wishing her well, and sending her good vibes. Emma, you’ll be missed, but I’m certain you’ll go on to do great things!

Senior Spotlight: Alli Thress

Alli is our resident globe trotter, spending a whopping 1.5 years abroad, but that doesn’t change how special she is to our team and to me! Getting to sit in stroke seat and work with Alli is a privilege. Every practice she brings a positive light to the boat that even the darkest and coldest mornings can’t dim!
Alli is always ready to get the job done and make sure the boat is ready to go! I am so proud of the coxswain that Alli has become. She is a strong advocate for both herself and her rowers making sure everyone is taken care of! Her spirit of adventure and preparedness reflect on the water and on land, but Alli is more than just an amazing coxswain; she is also an amazing artist and Spanish speaker, [something she shares with the boat upon request.] Even though she left us for so long to pursue her dreams in Granada and Costa Rica [we cried everyday she was gone :( ] she came back ready to conquer.
I know that as she gets ready to leave St. Mary’s and the rowing team she is on to do even more amazing things! Nosotras te amamos Alli! I am so thankful to be your friend and know you are guiding me through each row.
Alli I hope your senior year is wonderful, and I can not wait to see what you do in the future!

Love, Gabriella H.

Senior Spotlight: Noah Hanscom

Oh Captain my other Captain Noah Handsome, what a great leader you are. When I joined the rowing team, Noah and the other seniors made us feel welcomed and it felt like I was part of the family and the bond between us grew together as we kept showing up everyday no matter if the weather was dreadful or all sunshines and rainbows(once in a blue moon). One thing that I can always count on when showing up for practice is that Noah would be there 97% of the time. When I talk about the St. Mary’s rowing team I always think of Noah, although all the seniors are equally important I feel like Noah always has a smiling face on and is super kind to everyone and shines his undeniable positive influence on everyone.
Noah, your honesty and genuine character is unmatched.
I am so glad that I got to know you.
Love you - Ismail

Noah has always stood out as a strong leader. He’s always been approachable for new members and is always willing to answer questions. He has a great positive energy about and he’s an amazing member of the team. He helps other people feel relaxed when stress is high and helps us lock in and focus when we need to. Truly a talented individual who has focus, commitment, and is always calm. Wherever he goes in life they will be lucky to not only have such a capable individual but also such a good person.
