WEEKEND RECAP | WEEK ONE

Last weekend, we kicked off the fall season with a strong weekend of racing at multiple events!
Mats Braaten ’27 and Owen Fretwell ’30 competed at the ILCA South Qualifier at Navy, where both sailors qualified to compete in the Van Duyne. We also sent teams to ODU for the Riley Cup, where challenging and changing conditions tested the fleet. Our teams finished 2nd and 6th overall, a great result to start the season. Also at Navy, our women’s team had a slower start to the weekend but battled back as the sea breeze filled in, finishing 6th. Thank you ODU Sailing and Navy Sailing for hosting!
Overall, it was an exciting and successful opening weekend, and we’re looking forward to building on this momentum throughout the fall season!

Our favorite way to kick off the season is with our annual Founders Cup! On Saturday we raced 6 ensigns and 9 FJs with members from the St. Mary’s River Yacht Club. Thanks to all who helped make this possible, we look forward to it every year!

NATIONALS RECAP | OPEN

The coed team traveled down south to St. Petersburg for the 2026 Open Fleet Race Nationals. After 4 days of racing the Seahawks placed 12th overall. We are so proud to be a top 15 team in the country. Thank you .sailing for hosting!

Congratulations to our seniors for finishing college sailing. We can’t wait for next year!

NATIONALS RECAP | Women’s Fleet Race

Last week, our women’s team competed inFleet Race Nationals at St Pete. The conditions throughout the regatta were tricky, with up and down breeze and shifty conditions. We finished 12th in the Eastern Semifinals. We are very proud of the fight, resilience and scores they put up against the incredibly competitive field. WEEKEND RECAP | Women’s Team Race Nationals

This past weekend our Ladyhawks competed at Women’s Team Race Nationals. Our women’s team has worked extremely hard to qualify this year. In fact this is the first time in SMC history that our women’s team has made it to Team Race Nationals. In addition, between open and women’s team race fleets, only 8 schools were able to compete in both nationals. We are so proud to be apart of that group. Now we are looking forward to Fleet Race Nationals!
