"I am so proud of myself for finding a community like Dragonfly where I have felt safe, happy, and committed to being the best version of myself that I can be!"
Congrats to July Member of the Month, Lacy! Coach Denise says, "Lacy is always wearing a smile and is one of the friendliest people I know. She has progressed in all of her exercises teaming up with other members to push one another to the next level. I was really impressed when she and Jessica came in on a Saturday morning together to do their deadlift knowing that one of them couldn't make it at their normal time during the week. She frequently asks how she can improve at certain things and lets me know when she is ready for the next challenge. Now that summer is in full swing and her kids are busy at different times, she makes an effort to attend whichever Tuesday/Thursday class she can fit into her schedule so she doesn't miss." Way to go Lacy! Keep up the great attitude and the good work.
Here's more about Lacy's journey...
What brought you to Dragonfly?
The sign. No, but really! I had been staring at the Dragonfly sign from my home office for weeks wondering "I wonder what that's all about?" I had been longing to get back into a regular fitness routine for years, but it had been so long that I didn't know where to start! Prior to becoming a mom, I really enjoyed being active, challenging myself physically, and feeling strong. It felt daunting to start over with a new gym, new community, and less overall time and energy. Fortunately, I mustered the courage one day and initiated a consult via the website. Immediately I got connected to Missy. She was such a breath of fresh air in terms of what I had typically experienced with past gym "sales people". She was straightforward, honest, and friendly. It didn't feel like I was being sold to, more like we were working to ensure mutual success on both of our ends. From there, it was history.
What separates your experience at Dragonfly from other gyms/workouts/things you've tried in the past?
I love the community of strong women that make up Dragonfly. To me, it is so important to feel connected to everything I do. I appreciate walking in each morning, saying hi to everyone (most on a first name basis), and picking up from where we left off - whether it be encouraging each other to reach a strength milestone, or asking about their family or vacation. It feels like a group effort and helps hold me accountable to doing my best every single day. And, to be specific, I really enjoy the format of the workouts. The 8 week cycle is just enough time to really grasp what you're doing and improve without getting bored. To me, everything at Dragonfly is so accessible and adaptable to all.
We love when y'all celebrate & share your accomplishments - big & small, inside & outside the gym. Share with us something that you are proud of from the past few weeks or months.
I'll be honest...showing up consistently for myself is probably my biggest accomplishment this year. I don't know how many times over the past decade I started a new "fitness trend" that I eventually ended up dropping. The mental guilt I would have after a perceived fitness failure would eat away at my confidence and would creep into my self-perception. I started to think I would never be able to "find my groove" and get my body back physically. I am so proud of myself for finding a community like Dragonfly where I have felt safe, happy, and committed to being the best version of myself that I can be!
