What’s something your dad did that made you feel like you mattered?

Have you ever been driving and looked out the window at something only to notice that your car drifted in the direction you’re looking?

When you turn your head to look at something, your body goes with it.

The same is true when hiking through the woods. We drift off a straight line when our focus isn’t true.

The same is true in life.

Here’s another example: I DON’T want you to think of a pink elephant. I DON’T want you to imagine what it would sound like with Donald Duck’s voice.

How’d that go?

Here’s the thing:

When we say we don’t want ____ (fill in the blank), our unconscious mind looks for that thing we just named.

“I don’t want to be alone.” You’ll find yourself alone.

“I don’t want to be sad all the time.” You’ll find yourself sad more than not.

“I don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck anymore.” You’ll have money struggles.

Replace “I don’t want…” with what you DO want.

If you don’t want to be alone, what DO you want?

If you don’t want to be sad, what do you want instead?

If you don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck, what do you want?

Focus on that…what you WANT.

Happy Saturday! I’m still not sure how it happened, or why they agreed so quickly to move me from guest co-host to permanent co-host, but here we are. I’m blessed to announce I’m joining the team at A Silent War Within podcast! ❤️‍🔥

I’ve been advocating for men’s mental health and PTS in the first responder community since my own struggles hit their peak in 2019. My passion is two-fold:

1. Moving the needle in how our administrative and staff personnel better support our frontline workers. I’ve experienced firsthand that the stigma is still alive and real, and how we’re losing men and women everyday to the bureaucracy that hinders real support when it matters most.

2. Improving the real world tools and resources available to the men and women battling through it. Our industry has been at a “PTSD Awareness” level for well over a decade. It’s time to do more than just raise awareness! 💯

Just like our HazMat and USAR certs have multiple levels of training, it’s time to move our personnel from an “Awareness” level into “Operations” and “Technician” level training with regards to PTS and mental health.

As su***de and divorce rates remain unchanged after decades, it’s past time we level up our response. That’s why I’m developing training that puts practical tools and resources in the hands of our members on the ground… to not just recognize a problem, but to better mitigate the emergency.

Joining the team at A Silent War Within is the perfect next step in the evolution of what I’m building and who I’m becoming. I’m blessed for the opportunity.

Legacy isn’t just what you leave behind someday. It’s what your family experiences from you today. The small moments matter more than most fathers realize:

- The conversations
- The consistency
- The patience
- The presence

The reason many of us fall short of our goals and dreams is we don't want enough. We see what others have achieved, and we want that. Seems simple enough.... but the fallacy is in not seeing the work they put in to get there. Like seeing the beautiful tip of the iceberg above water, without seeing or understanding the foundation below the surface that's holding it up.

Don't get me wrong... we want the goal or dream we've imagined or seen in our mind. Where we fall short is we don't want the work it takes to achieve it. Read that again.

It's not enough to desire the goal, visualize the moment of achieving it, then struggle through the process to get there. We have to WANT and DESIRE... even CRAVE... the work it will take to get from where we are now to where we want to be. That's where people who successfully achieve their goals differ from those who don't.

Reframe your mind today to understand that the process is hard... and that in the hard is where you will grow the most and accelerate toward your goal even quicker. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
