*Me convincing women to sign up for ultras: you will see views that will change your life.
*Also me on race day: squints into fog I think that is a mountain.
Look, I stand by the views claim. They are real. They are genuinely life-changing. I have stood on ridgelines that made me forget I had been running for six hours.
But trail running has a way of reminding you that you did not come out here for the guarantee.
You came out here because you decided to show up for something hard and uncertain and completely yours.
The fog, wind, rain etc is just part of the deal. Some of my best runs have been the ones where I could not see ten feet in front of me, just the trail, my legs, and the very humbling reminder that I am a small human doing something hard and borderline dumb 😂 But that is where you learn the most about yourself and the strength you have within.
That is ultra running.
And it turns out the women who are best at this sport are not the ones who only run when conditions are perfect.
They are the ones who go anyway.
Is this you? Because you might be more ready than you think.
