Reform Training

Reform Training Group and private training from Reform Training is here!!! It is time to REFORM yourself into the person you want to be.

To REFORM is:
- to put into a new and improved form or condition
- to restore to a former good state
- to bring from bad to good
- to change from worse to better
- to amend
- to correct

Group and Private Training coming to Cape Girardeau in December of 2017. Reform Training is unlike any other gym or fitness facility you have been to. We don't believe anyone should have to CHANGE who they are. We all just need to REFORM into the person we know we can be.

CHOICES
=========

Recently I have been doing a little bit of substitute teaching to fill out some of my days. One thing that has came up with so many kids is a simple question they as when I tell them what they are supposed to do for the day.

"Do I have to?"

At first my response was of course they have to. Then I decided to take a different route.

I started telling them they didn't have to. That they didn't have to do anything.

This response always gave them a bit if a shock. When they were about to say something I would jump in.

"You don't have to do anything."

"You don't have to do the work."

"You don't have to come to school."

"You don't have to get out of bed every morning."

"But you have to understand by choosing to do or not to do something you will have to face whatever consequence that choice brings with it. It may be good. It may be bad. Your choices determine that."

Now I don't know how many middle school and junior high kids that will work with but it's a very true thing in our lives and especially in the health and fitness journey.

You don't have to exercise.

You don't have to eat healthy.

You don't have to eat cake at a birthday party.

You don't have to have 10 drinks at an office party.

Remember you don't have to do anything in life. Everything you do or don't do you make a choice to do or not to do. So choose your path own it. If you don't like where it takes you then it's on you to get off and get on the right one.

THE HOLY GRAIL
==============

With the new year fast approaching comes the beginning of fitness and nutrition programs. Many of those starting their journey aren't spring chickens just heading out. They have took those steps every year for a week here, a month there, and even sometimes a day.

So why are they having to start all over?

Why didn't it work last year?

Or the year before?

Why do their friends keep at it but they can't?

Well I believe it all comes down to one little thing. One factor. What I believe is the Holy Grail of Fitness and Nutrition.

What is this Holy Grail you may ask?

Well you have to wait and see. In the meantime comment below what you think your biggest hurdle has been holding you back. That way I can help tie in this "Holy Grail" to your troubles. Keep an eye out for the video coming in the next couple of days.

One of the many problems with our medical system is medicating to fix problems that aren't really problems. It's not the fault of the Doctors but a failure of the system as a whole by basing their responses on outdated research even when more research has contradicted it.

GO PLAY
=======

For some reason as we grew up we forgot how to play.

As adults we think that to work out we have to go to a gym and have a plan.

We think we are too old to play.

We arent.

Get outside and play again.

Go to a playground.

Play tag.

Just get out and move without any kind of plan or structure.

When you get tired rest.

When you feel rested get back up and play some more.

Bring enjoyment back to working out.

Your age isn't stopping you.

ILLUSIONS
=========

This is the business of most gyms and trainers.

They know how to make you THINK you got a great workout.

They can make you sweat.

Make you want to puke.

Make your abs burn.

Make you not able to use your legs for a week.

Problem is none of those things are indicative of a good workout.

Depending on you and your goals they could actually be signs of a bad workout.

The purpose of training is to get results.

Not to kill yourself.

And if you have to do that to get results then you need to find another gym.

Stop falling for the smoke and mirrors.

Stop going to the magicians.

This is a great article showing the importance of a proper progression of strength training to come back from a back injury. It just shows the importance of finding someone knowledgeable to make sure you are doing the things you should be and doing them correctly.

MOTIVATION (part 2)
=================

Motivation is this simple.

If you constantly need someone to motivate you to do the things you need to be doing to reach your goals then you need to re think those goals.

If you set goals that are the right goals for you then you shouldn't need constant external motivation. If you don't have internal motivation, or what I consider drive, then you are not going to succeed.

Being motivated is temporary.

Being driven is constant.

Being driven is what keeps you honest when noone else is looking.

Being driven is what keeps you hammering away at those small daily tasks that lead to success.

Being driven is doing the things that aren't "sexy."

So if you aren't driven to reach your goals then maybe those goals aren't right for you.

Maybe you aren't being honest with yourself as to why you want to reach them.

Take a look in the mirror.

That is where you begin.

MOTIVATION (part 1)

I was thinking about this topic a lot the past few days and wanted to put my thoughts out there. I am going to start with a link to one of my favorite videos on YouTube. I can't count how many times I have watched it. Stay tuned for part 2 where I will go into what I take from this.....

Leave Some In The Tank
====================
All too often we like to judge a workout by how hard it was.

How it made you want to throw up.

How your body was shaking for hours after.

How sore you were.

Those things have zero correlation to the effectiveness of a workout.

The point of training in the gym (unless your sport occurs in the gym) is to enhance your life outside of the gym.

So why would you kill yourself in the gym and then not be able to do the things you love outside of it?

The point of training is to get results and results won't come from beating your body down day after day.

It will break down.

So why not take it back a notch.

Do simple things that will translate.

Get stronger.

Stop killing yourself and then wearing it as a badge of honor.

P.S. If you think you have to smash yourself in the gym to lose those extra pounds then someone isn't being honest with you. Someone is using a lie to sellf you more training. You would be better off cutting your workouts in half and then using the rest of that time concentrating on filling your tank with the right kind of fuel.
