Happy 2018!!
As you go into the new year you may start to set some goals for yourself. Remember these things:
- your goal must be SMART - Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, and Time-bound. For example, Itβs not enough to say βI want to get healthyβ... you must lay out the specifics of what that means to you, make a plan of how you are going to get there, make sure that you can measure it and that itβs not totally bogus, and put a time-line on it.
- YOU WILL HAVE SETBACKS.... thinking that youβll set a goal and achieve it with no problems along the way is ridiculous... there will be pain, there will be letdowns, there will be problems that will have to overcome. You must understand that and try not to get discouraged. Too many times I see people give up the first time they have a slip up... you must keep going!!! I have failed so many times in achieving specific goals.. itβs actually comical. But if I quit every time I wanted to, I would be nowhere.
- the truth is that there is merit in setting a goal and going after it, even if you fail, because it builds character... it makes you better... it creates discipline, dedication and determination, and that is the true value in goals anyways... in the end itβs much more about the person you become trying to reach that goal, rather than the goal itself.
