Have not posted on here in a while. We’ve been crazy busy with life and have not been able to track a lot due to new work hours etc. But there’s a lot of good pointers with this deer. First, deer was shot and dropped in his tracks. Laid on the ground kicking and flailing for a little bit. The hunter was going to shoot again but didn’t as he figured that he’d have time if the buck got back up. A little while later this buck sprung to his feet and bound out of the field not offering another shot. Pointer #1 if you ever drop a deer in its tracks, no matter the weapon shoot it again as fast as you can!!! We see deer do this every year. It’s called spinal shock, we’ve even had people walk up and take pictures of deer only for them to take off and never be recovered. Another good point from this track that we see a lot. This buck was shot with a 350 legend it’s a higher hit with no exit. The hunter was not able to find any blood not where the deer dropped, where it ran through y’all tan grass, nothing. Had this deer not dropped on impact they very well may have thought they missed. A lot of these 350 and 450 rounds do not exit. So you get a small diameter entry wound and if it’s a higher hit often 0 blood. We find deer every year that are hit well and definitely fatally hit just lying in the woods with these small entry wounds and no exit. A lot of people just think how did I miss, there’s no blood. Well you didn’t. Just a few tips/pointers from last nights track. Congratulations Jonathan on a great Buck!
